Healthy Tummy feed

Does anyone else feed it? What are your thoughts?
I believe it's fairly new. Based on Alfalfa with added herby stuff! I started it a few days after my horse had colic and saw it on offer locally! Not sure I notice he seems any happier tummy wise! (He's a wind sucker- I'm going on the assumption it's tummy related?!). On the other hand he gets two scoops per day split into two and has kept his weight brilliantly whereas last winter we struggled.
Interested to hear what people think of this feed.
 
Ironically I bought a large stock of this for my lad as he too was windsucker so thought I'd give it a go.
Never got to try him on it.

Baby coblet now has a supply which will last him a good 6 months. :o Along with alpha beet. He LOVES it...can't say if it does anything tummy wise as he has no problems nor really needs hard feed, but is looking fantastic on it.
 
It is a high calorie feed, for Med/Hard work, weight gain etc. which I think lots of people may not register if they are thinking along the lines of Happy Hoof, Healthy Feet etc.
It is a very safe high energy feed tho if your horse tolerates alfalfa
 
...I have been feeding it to my forester ( 4 x scoops a day) as he had lost condition after a virus. He has gained weight, has a lovely shine & seems to love it.
Hasn't effected his temperament at all
 
Mm, stupid question sorry but when people say their horse can't tolerate Alfalfa why? What symptoms show?
Ghostie I've not tried Aloe Vera no- can you tell me more about it? A few people have suggested it in the past actually but I'm allergic and automatically think its awful stuff ;) Where do you get it and cost etc. thank you
 
Alfalfa aggregates my boy's ulcer symptoms and also makes him footy (he's unshod behind).

I tried aloe vera after reading about it in the newsletter of one of the racehorse rehoming centres.

Gastroguard is prohibitively expensive for them as nearly all their horses have ulcers. Instead they give the horses 60 to 100ml of pure aloe vera juice once a day for several months. It should be syringed in not added to feed.

If you shop around you can get a litre for under £10. Big plastic syringes on ebay.

I swear by it now. I manage for ulcers with ad lib hay and avoiding sugar or cereal in hard feed (just unmollased sugarbeet, micronised linseed and yeasacc for gut function
 
Sorry phone got carried away! Anyway, then I give aloe vera as a prevention when his routine changes or he may be stressed e g reduced turnout, travel etc.

If I had another horse I suspected ulcers in I would definitely give it daily for several months

Ive been giving pretty much ad-lib hay tho' that's become tricky recently as he needs it soaked so sometimes I get it a bit wrong!
Ive cut cereals and just feed Happy Tummy and speedibeet currently but would certainly give anything else a try.
Old owners assured me not ulcer related and ive been meaning to get him scoped but had such a difficult winter so far financially also its difficult as I have no electric at the yard so means moving him elsewhere for a day or so, with a horse who wont load and nil money that's proving tough! I also worry being on a new yard with no hay for a night would be very stressful for him, he's already a worry wart!

I have read it makes some horses excitable but havent had that problem with my 2 and 1 usually heats up on non heating food.

One of mine used to every now and again get loose poohs (sort of mousse consistency) so I changed them to this - they both love it and his poohs have been much more consistent since.

I feed one scoop morning and night, not the full recommended amount as mine have a feed balancer too.

Doesn't Aloe Vera kill all the bacteria good and bad so can sometimes upset the tummy?
 
I've fed Healthy Tummy and not convinced by it. Didn't see any real improvement if anything the opposite from being on Alfa-A Oil originally. Now switching back.
 
We feed it to one of the horses at work. He seems to be doing well on it and it saves his owner money as when she rang the helpline she was told that it had biotin and pink powder ingredients in it already
 
I've been using it for sometime now, and my boy loves it! only issue I have is that he has scoops in each feed, and one bag lasts us about 2 weeks (ish). I'd happily pay that bit extra for a larger bag (20kg would be nice). He's looking really well on it and I'm happy with it.
