Hear the Echo?

[ QUOTE ]

Hear The Echo was obviously exhausted from the second last but the jockey kept pushing him on. Surely he should be penalised?? I can't imagine how I would feel if it was my horse and he was ridden like that, I think my OH would go after the jockey with a baseball bat...

I didnt think he was completley exhausted to be fair. You could see him in the background and he looked tired but so did the others.
I also guess the in the Grand National when you are two fences from home you are hyped up, and thinking about being able to finish the Grand National

Apparently Butlers Cabin and Comply Or Die were on oxygen but were fine.

Hear the Echo was pulled up before the last. He was cantering to the finish when he collapsed, so the jockey wouldn't have been chasing him.

Jockeys are fairly good at pulling up tired horses, it's their lives on the line if a tired horse makes a mistake.

strange isn't it, I can't imagine what people would say if I rode my horse til he needed oxygen.
I watch the national every year and enjoy doing so but I do wonder if it's worth it.

couldnt have put it better myself^^^^ people are so quick to have a go at eventers who push horses across the line that are clearly near their limit, yet seemingly ok to do so with the GN??? strange really but hey ho!!

I think eventers regularly use Oxygen tents at big events.

To be honest, I doubt you have a vet checking your horse each time to take it for a gallop, so you would be unaware if it needs oxugen. These horses are pretty well looked after, most of the time Oxygen will be given as a precautionary measure.

RIP Hear The Echo

He was 'my horse of choice' (ie: I had a £1 each way bet on him

)

Hope the other three have no long term ill effects either.

Real shame but nothing anyone could have seen coming. I wasn't sure if the jockey had pulled him up as he felt something wasn't right? Maybe he just felt he was tired by then. Real shame he had to go like that but then guess he wouldn't have known anything about it.

He was my sweepstake horse too.

RIP

Dear god - they call this sport????? If it was gypsies doing it at Appleby Fair, it would shock the nation and people would be screaming for the event to be stopped. Sickening.
