Hello

Can anyone tell me what the horse's heart rate should be at rest, walk, trot, canter and gallop?

Many thanks

Its kinda difficult to check at all paces and lets face it there are canters and there are canters.[slow canter in manege v fast canter uphill]
if you go to the endurance sites, you will find out all about heart rates, and what they are looking for is a low rate, and a quick recovery, this is one reason for using arabs.
I used to do a bit of cycling, and the idea was to push your heart rate up to max (200 or more), this heart rate in humans is related to age, also fitness, but max heart rate falls with age, in humans a good resting heart rate indicates fitness, eg right down to 40 bpm.
But horses are different, they start with a much lower heart rate, I don't think there has been anything like the scientific study as on humans, and I don't think it is as relevant as it is in humans.
