does any one have these on their horse or have experience of using them?
do you think they were beneficial for your horse?
was/is your horse sensitive/flat footed?

My girl has always been sensitive footed on harder, particularly stoney ground, and she had lami a couple of years ago whilst out on loan, i thought this type of shoe may benefit her

Your experiences would be greatly appreciated

The heart bar spreads the pressure more around the foot and is used on horses where the blood supply to the heels has been compromised it puts more pressure on the frogs so it is not a permanent fix but its aim would be to encourage nore heel growth . It would be useful i would think in a lamanitic as there is classically disruption to the blood supply in the foot which can lead to a contracted heels and a long toe. The heart bar is useful in this case.
especially if there has been some rotation of the pedal bone. the farrier will sometimes even use a wedged shoe in this case to take even more pressure off the heel and allow the pedal bone to come back to the angle that it should be at[ about 30 degrees from the horizontal.] this can also be checked with xrays

My pony who has Cushings has stick on Imprint heartbar shoes:

He has rotated pedal bones and they give his heels lots of support. A friend who has a horse with navicular has ordinary heartbars to give her horse heel support. If your horse has sensitive soles, but doesn't need extra heel support perhaps you should consider having pads fitted. In any case, the best person to advise you is your farrier.

I would talk to your farrier, but a cheaper option might just be having pads fitted if the reason you want to use them is because she is footy on stones etc.

A pair of heartbars would be about £80, imprint shoes are even worse

Yes - my pony's imprint shoes are £100 per pair - luckily he grows very little foot, so only has to be shod every 3 months

ask you farrier about a substance called soleguard which is made by the same people who make supafast. It is a quick reacting substance which is placed onto the sole of the hoof after a shoe has been fitted, it molds to the shape of the sole and fills all the sole and around the frog. It stops the sole having contact with the foot and is very benificial with horses who feels stones.

Heart bars would not be ideal to just stop a horse feeling stones they would not serve the purpose at all....

As explained, heart bars encourage an improvement in bod flow as they aid the frogs action as a pump, they aso support the heels and encourage weight bearing onto them.. This is the reason they are used in lami cases as seen by use of the imprint shoes.

Speak to your farrier, but pads or solegaurd sounds like a cheeper and more viable option than bar shoes.
