We were putting up some new fencing this morning and the dogs were buzzing about the field sniffing out rabbits etc when we heard yelping. I looked up and there was Oscar suspended from the barbed wire fence  :( Cue one mad dash over to him while yelling "Stay!" to try and stop him struggling. I was terrified he would have done major damage of the unthinkable kind so I was utterly relieved when we lifted him down to find one small hole at the top of his hindleg. The poor love had wet himself in fright :( and I had the shakes for ages after. He is now in the vets to be sedated and have it flushed out and stapled back together so please send him some healing vibes and virtual hugs because he is feeling pretty sorry for himself.

Here is a gratuitous pic of my special boy :)

Just to add he jumps barb (and 5 bar gates, stone walls etc) on a daily basis with no bother at all but we were secondary fencing the field for pigs with electric wire about half a metre inside the permanent fence and he tried to jump the lot at once. I really hope he learns from his mistakes because if he doesn't I don't have a clue how to train a 9 year old dog not to do something he has done all his life

I remember that thread MC, God they know how to shred your nerves don't they!

I've just had a call from the vets to say he is all patched up but still too sedated to come home :)

Well i now have a VERY sorry looking dog at home who is snuggled up under a blanket and trying to be brave, yeah right  Annoyingly, although he is being very good and not licking his wound, Dash keeps trying to get at it for him! How do I stop him doing this so I don't have to separate them completely?

Ouch Tilly sends her sympathies! She has ended up hanging by both hind legs before...unfortunately they dont learn, although in her case, in the dark they just don't see it until way too late when they are running flat out.
Hope he's feeling better soon x

OMG just texted you before I read he was home! If I had known earlier I would have come and given him a hug on my visit to the yard tonight :rolleyes:
Will come and say hi to the patient tomorrow :D

Thanks Chelle, he's really sore and gives me a really pained look any time he needs to move anywhere :( By tomorrow i'm sure he will be feeling well enough to milk it to full effect - spoonfed chicken and rice coming up  ;)
