also posted in vet forum!

my gelding had a puncture wound begining of september, not much abcess but a huge frog infection.

this has all gone but meant the farrier clipped away his heel bulbs and his frog has come off. he has a new one growing in ok tho.

when the vet signed him off three weeks ago she said he was sound.

however until now its still warm. what could the reason for this be. it does vary some tims warmer than others.

could it be that without the frog and heel that his foot is more sensitive and this is why?

any ideas would be great!

thanks

Phone the vet and ask for advice.
Keep all feet clean especially the sore one, I would use the prescription purple spray that you get from the vet, once or twice a day.
Is he stabled and is he on dry clean bedding?
You could check his temperature . get a human thermometer from the pharmacy [not Boots own] it is easy to use, just don't let go!!! Keep it to one side rather than the centre, else you get the temp of the poo.

thanks for your advice.

i have some flamazine cream which the vet said to put on it whilst the heel grows back in will that help like the purple spray?. hes out at the moment as his legs get puffy if hes in.

i will call the vet. i just wanted to see if its normal for there to be a bit of heat once the abscess is gone. as it was the same when she signed him off so i thought it must be but it seems to have gone on a bit long now.
