As title really- please excuse panicked rambling as I'm a bit worried! Vet incidentally is coming to do jabs tomorrow, so I've asked him to have a look too, but in the meantime I'm just trying to assuage my worst fears!
Pony came in from the field with a hot hindleg (most heat around fetlock). After hosing off the mud it became apparent he has a swelling around 2 inches long, 1 inch wide on the side of his leg, just above and further in from his fetlock.
He trotted up completely sound, and was happy for me to press and poke the lump. It has an oedema like texture , but no pitting (as in when I poke it, there's no dent left by my finger!).
I cold hosed for 10 minutes and there was a notable reduction in size, so have bandaged his leg for the night.
Initial thought was that he has slipped in the field and tweaked something- unfortunately following all this rain it is a bit deep in places.
Pony in question is 18 and still in regular work, is being ridden 4/5 times a week (weather permitting!), and had a day off yesterday. Last jumped one week ago but on a surface. He has been doing more roadwork recently but only in walk with max 1 min intervals of a slow trot.
Any thoughts? My inner hypochondriac is panicking madly!!
