My horse is having treatment for tendon and soft tissue injury to coffin joint.I had back shoes off becasue he is on field rest.He has eggbar and gel pads in front.Tonight he has heat in the bulb of his heel on his back leg and cant stand if I pick up opposite leg.Could hard ground and frost caused that much bruising.
Farrier is out tuesday so I could have his back feet reshod .The vet is out wed for check up and more shockwave therapy so I will ask her to take a look.
I can bring him in early if ground is hard again and give him some danilon for comfort but wondered what else I could do in between .
Yo says he hasnt been doing anything other than walk about in his field.

I certainly think the hard ground can bruise the heel, you must remember that where the field has got rutted the ruts have now frozen and would have the same effect as sharp stones out on a hack.
I was going to suggest keeping him in for a couple of days but on saying that we are about to have a heatwave 8 degrees !!!
Just monitor the weather and if it freezes again keep him in.
Good luck with the vet.

Thanks poor boy as if he hasnt had enough problems.
Ill monitor the weather and his field .Its the entrances to the fields everyone has big mud ruts. His heels are low anyway which is why we are doing remedial shoeing I thought his back feet could do with the rest.
At least 8 degrees is better than the minus ones we have been getting.

i would also check he hasn't got anything stick in it!, my horse has spent the last 10 months walking on his toe on his off hind due to a thorn. hope he gets better soon (((((((hugs))))))
