Hi all,
My gelding had a large amount of heat coming from the pastern on his off hind this morning. There was a touch of swelling so we assumed it was an abscess, we cold hosed his leg and left him in his stable whilst we left to go and get poultice supplies. Upon returning to the yard, roughly 2-3 hours later, the heat from the leg had effectively gone, the swelling had gone down and trotted up he is completely sound. Any ideas as to what this could have been? Is it likely it is still an abscess or could it have been a touch of laminitis? We were also wondering if he could have just knocked it and this was what generated the heat?
Obviously we will continue to monitor and if nothing improves or anything gets worse the vet will be called. But we were just wondering what other people's opinions were in the mean time, we've owned this pony for 3 years and have never had any problems, hence the worry and confusion.
