As per title really. My border terrier gets cold when we are out on the yard across late autumn/winter/early spring. He does have a coat with a bit of a belly cover, which he hates, but I make him wear it anyway, as it's preferable to him shivering. He doesn't carry any excess weight, and even though I put a bed out for him, he prefers to lay on the concrete. He loves sunbathing, and when in my office, lies virtually on top of the radiator, so definitely a heat seeker. I am thinking of maybe a heat reflecting bed, or possibly something I can charge up, but although under cover of the overhang of the stables, would need to be reasonably weatherproof. He's not old (only 2), and not wimpy in any other way, just seems to get cold, which I totally appreciate. Suggestions welcome please.

Photo of him keeping cosy - excuse the scruffiness, midway between strips.

Snuggle safe heating pads are good and stay warm for a good time. I had one for my BT when on the yard though he wandered round with me most of the time. They are a hard plastic disc filled with a gel and you heat them up in the microwave for 6 mins. They will stay warm for about 8-10 hours inside though when outside that decreases to about 3-4 hours.

Thanks I will check them out. He is on a 15m long line, so does potter a fair bit, but finds mucking out very boring to observe. 3-4 hours would be fine.

Heat pad sounds ideal as he can turn over when one side gets cold.

Yes, I have ordered one. Then he can choose to be on it or not as he wishes. I did consider getting him one of those fleece onesies, but he's bad enough when I get his coat out (runs off in the other direction), so I don't think I could do that to him. A couple of his brothers have them, and they look very grumpy in them, even for a BT. 🙈
