Heater for washing

Quick question - right now to wash my horses, its just cold water we have running through a hosepipe. But Im wondering - how difficult (and expensive!) would it be to fit some sort of water heater? We have electricity and mains water at the stables.

Just that Im going to be washing one of my horses weekly (sweet itch) and my other grey horse is a total shivering woose if I use it on him!
 
Hi Holls - have you thought about getting a cheapo shower and wiring it up - thats what we are doing. OH says its quite simple, just have to get a sparky to wire it up properly. This means they can have a warm shower all year round. We are thinking also of rigging up heat lamps to dry them off. Horsey solarium, now doesnt that sound posh

I have absolutley no idea how or how much it would cost to do this!! We have a water heater at the farm. Its about 100 years old and needs an hour to warm up but its fantastic. If you get the chance to install one i would. Sometimes we have about 3-4 people washing at the same time for shows and it does us all. Imagine how many kettles we'd need!!

A friend of mine swears by their hot pressure washer

They use it on their horses after hunting and for cleaning rugs & equipment.

However probably not the cheapest solution
 
Hi we have a burco boiler for hot water and a shower for the horses, it works really well you just need to join 2 shower hoses together and always have some spare ones around (you can get them from the £ shop)!! as the horses do tend to stand on them and then if you want to dry them we have 2 lots of heat lamps one is 5 infra red pig lamps and the other is 4 garden patio heaters, just like a solarium but only couple of hundred pounds rather than thousands!

As in a steam cleaner?
I have one of those and would love to use it on my horse and his rugs as they are filthy.

I always wondered about pressure washers , but then I read they force debris through into the skin causing problems, so I've never dared.
A burco would quickly heat enough water and they are peanuts to buy second hand. I always had mine on the go cooking barley at the yard and the electricity bill was never much.
 
No I don't think a steam cleaner would be a good idea except on rugs!!!!!

We had problems washing one horse with warm water as he got bumpy skin from the pores opening and clogging. So he had to have cold no matter what.

Friend seems to have no problems with the pressure washer, I think it has variable pressure settings so not flat out. You can also adjust the temperature.
 
I am just checking, as I wasn't entirly sure if a pressure washer and a steam cleaner were the same thing, or even related.

I am also tempted to try and sort some sort of heating device so my lad can have a bath in winter.
I really wanted to bath him today but it was still cold so I am unsure if I should just wait until summer.
As he is unclipped.
