Does anyone have a review on this saddle?

After a nightmare of saddles not fitting properly the horse now has muscle wastage even though I've had a fitter over almost monthly. Horse is a TB with high but long withers.

Im liking the sound of the GP version as I mainly hack with the odd jump.

I bought a second hand Fhoenix from eBay and it got snapped up by a friend of mine.

Very comfortable but I found it less stable and comfortable than my beloved Freeform, so I let it go.

HM now has the FlexEE range out, which is cheaper than her previous saddles.

You won't find too many fair reviews on this forum - she's none too popular on here :o

But I don't think her personality damages the worth or use of her saddles ;).

Nurseys (a company that make beautiful leather & sheepskin items) make the Phoenix. They are in Suffolk & will lend you one to try if you are close enough. The flex EE. Is made in India :(.

I had the same issues as you with muscle wastage from a poorly fitting saddle. I tried the Phoenix & didn't like it. I went for broke (literally) & bought a solution saddle. It was horrendously expensive but my horse goes fantastically in it & I love it.

I had a similar problem, fairly high withered horse and old saddle causing problems and damage. I tried and bought a S/H phoenix. Still trying to decide if I like it.
OH reckons it is one of the most uncomfortable he has ridden on. We had to buy a gel pad for the seat otherwise it was impossible on your seat bones. Also needed a hi wither pad and got the griffen shimmy one. That seems to work well.
The one who is really happy is the horse. He has a lot more freedom of movement in front.
It is a nicely made saddle. I used to hack out a lot on a Symonds dressage saddle and prefer dressage saddles. That was really comfortable, far more so for the rider than the phoenix.

I would sell the phoenix and get a treed dressage saddle for me if I had the choice BUT I think the horse may prefer the phoenix.

happyto hack
why didn't you like the phoenix and why do you like the solution? Would be grateful for any comparisions between the two from both the horse and riders point of view in case I decide to change.
Did you trial a solution? did someone fit it? just any info please would be appreciated.

The flexee might be made in India (with English leather) but the quality is fantastic, it's a good saddle and is cheap considering the quality. The vogue is still the rolls Royce version mind.

To answer the OPs question the Fhoenix is a good saddle but for the price I'd definitely consider a FlexEE, check the website to see if there's a fitter in your area to advise. :-)
Paddy555 - it's odd to have needed a gel pad on top as the memory foam seat saver is built in to them :-/

First time ive ever seen someone say a HM was uncomfortable on the seat bones  I find them v v v comfy, just rather wide on a hippo sized friesian when you have dodgy joints.

My mare however wont be ridden in anything but the vogue  expensive taste much?!

yes i was suprised to need the gel pad but it is really really harsh. Anticipated from what I had read that it would be harsh for the first 15 minutes or so until it warmed up however even after a couple of hours riding still very harsh.
Difficult to see why and both OH and I find it harsh, not just one of us and neither of us usually have a problem in that area.

Ditto this. I had a Fhoenix to break my cob in. Although he was perfectly happy in it, I felt perched, unstable and a mile away from his back. I sold it on after a few months, I hated it.

We've now got a Smart Solution GP - it broke the bank, but I adore my saddle. Rods goes great in it, too :)
