I am wanting to offer a clipping service as I don't mind the job and have experience. I currently have a Moser Avalon Cordless clipper but it won't be up to the job of clipping several horses a day as it is battery powered.

Has anyone any Recommendations of which heavy duty mains clipper to buy that can clip up to 6 horses in one go?

I am going to have to buy second hand and have around £100 to spend before getting it serviced. Don't want it too heavy as I'm a petite female, and must be reliable!

Thanks in advance!

Heiniger are the world leaders in shearing products, most of their market is in sheep shearing in Australia so they are not treated kindly and have to take rough treatment. 7 of 10 of last years finalists at the world shearing comp used Heinigers. They've transferred this into their horse clippers.

I've got Heiniger Delta 3 clippers, they are powerful and cool running, and as name suggests, they have 3 speeds (handy for sensitive horses). The Heiniger blades last well in between sharpenings.

Not sure what you'll get for £100. It's fine taking a punt on a cheap set if you're only clipping your own horses, but you don't want a reputation as being unreliable due to faulty equipment if you're setting up a new service. Factor in several spare sets of blades, too.

Also apparently you need specialist insurance if you clip professionally, too (there was a thread about this a while back).

I have Lister Laser clippers at the yard and during the winter they clip 8-10 horses a day with nothing more than a 10min break and blade change between each horse. The blades last a good few clips I just change them so I have a cold set each time I clip.

Both the Lister Laser and Heineger Delta 3 are the biggest and heaviest clipper the manufacturers make!
You would get the same performance from a Hauptner 3000 but that is much smaller and lighter.
That said I'm not too sure you can expect to find any of them for £100!

As stated above Heineger clipper are phenomenally reliable. I just think the delta 3 will be a bit much to handle given that you have specified you don't want it too heavy as you are a petite female! The next clipper down is a Heineger progress but there are reliability issues with the motor and PCB. They don't often go but when they do the machine is a write off as both components go at the same time - usually for no known reason.

Lister Laser clippers are a tad bulky and heavy for what they and so would suggest the Lister Legend clippers as an alternative. Just short of the power but smaller and lighter. Both are very reliable.

Wolseley were good clippers but don't seem to have kept pace with their competitors. most of the clippers are the standard 'lister Germany' type clipper but more expensive!

Liveryman make a good range of clippers probably too big a range to be fair. None of them stand out for being really good for any particular thing but in terms of how many there are (possibly meaning lower 2nd hand value) and all round 'good enough' then they may be worth considering. You will not go wrong with a Liveryman Arena Plus or a C130 or Red Rocket (listed heaviest first)

Be glad to help further if you need it!
