Hi all, I am off to YourHorse Live tomorrow for some serious shopping and was wondering if anybody had any heavyweight rug recommendations for larger build horses? I have a 16.3hh WB so she is quite big boned and since I have only really had TBs before I'm not sure which rugs suit the larger build horses?

I am currently eyeing up the Horseware Rambo Duo, but in case my OH sets a limit on my spending (how dare he

) are there any WB/ID/etc owners out there with other suggestions?

Thanks!

Not a WB owner but a chunky LW Show cob - I love the Weatherbeeta "Original" style (I have the Taka and the Landa Original) - no rubs and fit beautifully around the chest/shoulders.
Rambos don't go anywhere near him! Plus the neck is too long.

Agree with jnb I have 2 v large horses and a Hanovarian and they all have WB Taka detach a neck Heavy and they are now on their 3rd winter and look no different from the day they were brought. They also have WB mediums as well and they are on their 7 winter. Totally recommend Weatherbeeta rugs. Have fun at YHL.

My Takas are 4 and 5 years old and good as new! I have the Original combo (a purple/black and a gold/black one) - both off EBay brand new and never worn though a few years old.
If I see another I will buy it - shame they have changed to the Freestyle IMO, fits nowhere near as many types of horses and rubs like b**gery!

I had a 16.3 WB and had him decked out on Premier Equine. They fitted him really well and IMO were great value for money

Go with Rambo Duo with spare liner (one on and one in wash!) you can now put the liners in their stable rugs as well so very flexible tho Duo rugs so good I seldom change into stable rugs, they live in them. Do be careful to buy the right size as if too big the liner can slip and get torn as the rugs are quite deep. All my cobs wear them. Buy cheap, buy twice!

Thank you for all the suggestions! There should be plenty of places selling Weatherbeeta tomorrow I'd guess so I will check out their prices! I will be looking for 6ft9.

All my rugs are Fal or Rambo with the exception of the heavyweights- I really rate the Mark Todd heavyweights for chunky monkeys! Found the Rambos had a gap at the chest and the Fal hood zip rubbed! Have fun shopping

Personally wouldnt go for the Weatherbeeta Landa combo - the neck is too small in 7ft for my mare, maybe better if they do detachable neck if they give more room but I'm having to replace my Landa as it isnt big enough in the neck.

Premier Equine rugs are amazing. I have the Stormbuster T/O for mine with a liner for extra cold weather. They are the warmest thing out! My WB struggles to keep warm and PE rugs have helped him loads!

Hated the Rambo Duo I had. I love my Weatherbeeta Tristar, its very similar to the Duo (ie. detachable liner etc.) however is MUCH better fitting than the Duo. I found the Duo too neat fitting even on my slim TB built horse. The velcro neck kept on ripping as well, and it leaked! Tristar is excellent, as are their normal (non detachable liners) ones like the Orican and Arions. They fitted my very sturdy Welsh Cob the best.

FAL are great, but I find they can be quite neat also so only really suit slim built horses IMO.

Another thumbs up for Premier Equine rugs. I have a Stormbuster (from memory) 450g and its really warm and looks cosy with the elasticated neck cover, which fits well.

Thanks for all your suggestions on this! In the end I ended up ordering the Premier Equine Buster Trio on the phone whilst at Your Horse Live as I couldn't find anything else at such good value! It arrived yesterday and so far I am very happy with it
