I need to buy a heavyweight and lightweight turn out rug. I am currently looking at the Rambo duo but not sure how good it is, but does seem good value. But slightly worried I will be relying on one rug to do two jobs and horse is a bit of a rug trasher if his stable rugs are anything to go by! Does anyone have experience of it or any other suggestions for good heavyweight and lightweight turn out rugs?

Really thinking that I would rather get either Horseware or Fal for the heavyweight one but prepared to try something else for the lightweight - have heard the Mark Todd lightweight ones are good. Generally use Horse rugs 4 u as they seem good value but does anyone have any other suggestions for good value sites.

I have a rug trasher and eventually decided to try a Rambo and he hasnt trashed it. I also have fals and they are great for anything with a bit of shoulder. I find the rambos are a bit tight on the shoulders so go for the next size up if the horse is a bit wide across the front. I wouldnt go back to cheaper rugs now.

I have a detachable neck Fal and it is brilliant. The neck fastenings IMO are very safe.

I bought all my rugs off ebay as this is the cheapest place I have found!

Discountedsaddlery are good for rambos but they also had Fals last year I think.

Not used the Fal Commander rug, but have used the Viking one with detachable necks and really rate them. They are dual purpose so you don't need stable rugs either.

you cant go wrong with premier equine, 450g heavyweight full neck rug and has not been damaged at all by my rug trasher. Very good value for money, got mine in sale last year at £60 i think they are around £120 full price. They also have the same rug in a lightweight version (but neck is removeable on lightweight, again got mine in sale at £40, think they are around £60 full price.

I have the Viking detachable silver interactive. It is a fantastic rug. She wore it day and night through winter and had no rubs except on her mane where the neck cover joins the main rug. She is the only one of mine that needs a neck cover. I also have Fal stable rugs as they are deeper than anything else I found. I think it is the same with the turnouts. She has a rambo HW and MW high neck/wither versions as i find they are less likely to cut in at the base of the neck.

Another vote for Premier Equine (Rambo convert here!!!), they are excellently quality, give great service (next day delivery) and are more reasonable than Rambo/Fal rugs.

I use Mark Todd now. I did use Weatherbeeta but as my horse lives out the neck part would stop half way down his neck. The Mark Todd ones have a gusset, so the neck falls down to ears. I have the heavy one, about 350g I think, on a clipped horse, living out and he was fine. I also have the light weight version, like a rainsheet, and fab. I sold all my weatherbeetas on ebay and bought new toddy ones. Highly recommend them.

I have a range of Mark Todd rugs because they are the only ones that fit my horse. If I had a horse that suited Rambo and/or Fal and/or Premier Equine, I wouldn't use anything else. I am a bit of a rug addict and I've had experience of lots of brands through working at various yards - seriously the best really are the Rambos and the Fals, and I haven't heard anything but praise for Premier rugs so would give them a go too.
My friend has a Rambo Duo and loves it

I have used the liners for the duo under other rugs too, and they dont slip out so long as you clip it to the D rings for a fillet string.

i bought the fal commander when it 1st came out its a fantastic rug. also have the fal warrior high neck its also fantastic .. i was a rambo fan from when they 1st came on the market but i have to say i dont like them now at all....my hubby bought my horse a rambo duo and i only used it for 2 months and its been sat in the cupboard ever since.

imo its better to pay the extra money for Fal rugs .

Thanks for all these suggestions really helpful. He is a warmblood and i know he will need the width as he is likely to come up a bit in front as he is only 4. Now just have to choose between the Fal, Rambo and Premire equine........

Having seen Merlins mane I would say Dozzie's mane was less destroyed with the Fal. I am sure MQ will agree!

But the Duo is more versatile.
