I'm looking at buying a HEDCAM 7Twenty HD for my Christmas present.

Does anyone have one ? what is the battery life I have read some are only for one hour not good if you want a long hack. I'm wanting the hedcam more for recording any issues which may happen on the roads with traffic not slowing down.

What your thoughts please ?

I have a HEDCAM 7Twenty HD, and really do like it. Great for recording hacks, XC schooling sessions & hunting. The only thing I'd have to fault it on is the duration of which it records footage - only around an hour & a half, which, if I'm hunting or hacking, isn't long enough.

Other than that I really do love it, even if I don't have the whole day on camera.

If you only want it for on the roads can you turn it off if you go off road so you only recording when actually on the road?

I have a go pro. Expensive and still only get about 1.5hrs on the normal battery. You can however get an add on battery extension that will give you an extra hour.

Nice camera! We got a Muvi a few years ago - in no small part because it is much cheaper in case of an accident. With a full charge and an extension card it will record for 8 hours. The quality isn't great by today's standards (certainly not HD!) but its primary use for us is hunting and hacking. Not to watch back so much as to use in case of an incident - just as OP suggests. The police are more than happy with the footage - as we have proved several times. The only really minor issue, if it is one at all, is that the camera is quite small so people don't necessarily realise they are being filmed. I'd far rather prevent bad behaviour in the first place than have the evidence of it afterward.
