Trevor Hemmings has just announced that the 12 yr old Hedgehunter is to be retired, to live out his days with him at home on the Isle of Man. I for one am overjoyed to hear this - Hedgehunter has been a true champion, and I am thankful that his owners have recognised the fact that he owes them nothing.

Aww, glad to here that. Bloody hell his owners must have done pretty well out of him as it is!! I didn't really see the point in him going in the national this year, but glad they've realised he's done enough now.

Sorry but i will not have a bad word said against Mr Hemming. I looked after his first ever National horse, which he kindly gave me when he retired. Yes he is a business man, but he loves his horses and would get very upset if anything happened to them. I sadly lost my old boy two years ago now but i still get a Christmas card from him every year.

Erm.....can you tell me where I have said a bad word against him? I have utmost respect for him; all I have said is that I think he made the right decision here, and that I applaud him for that! Sheesh.....

Does that not say you think he has done the right thing by the horse now that to me would say you did not think he cared. That's how i read it. sorry if this is not how you meant it to sound

Please dont be so quick to jump on people; all I meant was that Mr Hemmings has done the correct thing by his horse, when many others would - or have - not. I think he should be applauded for this; Hedgehunter has had a wonderful career, and I am glad that he will be able to retire happy and healthy.

I took it that MizElz meant that the owners had done the right thing by the horse, and that she was praising them for doing so.

So pleased he's in one piece!
A lovely horse, and I remember being horrified when he fell at the last in one of the nationals, and then Ruby jumping up and down beside him to stop the other jockeys jumping over the fence where he was lying prone the other side in case they landed on him......shows the partnership they can build up.
I hope he has a wondeful retirement...
