Hi Everyone. So my mare has had an abcess for nearly 2 weeks now. Shes still lame and I can feel heat but there is not a lot of puss coming out any more I really dont know what to do. She wont stand in a bucket anymore after kicking one and going through the roof ? Do u think she needs antibiotics or am I just being over sensitive as shes been on box rest since april with the dreaded laminitis 😪 thanks everyone

Vet and or farrier is my guidance. Farrier to make sure it's draining and a vet to prescribe pain relief and antibiotics if needed/advised by farrier.

Be careful about self administering pain relief for an abscess as some pain killers can actually stop them from draining.

Shes already on pain killers day and night for the laminitis. My heart breaks for her hate seeing her like this. Thank you for your reply. The vet keeps 2 horses on the yard so will ask her at tea time x

I would speak to your vet as she is already receiving treatment for laminitis, I bought a boot you can fill up with water it's called tubbease great invention.

Agree about cushings test as 4 months in for laminitis I would expect a significant improvement and the horse to be a lot more comfortable.
