lol good tips wont forget

Get a washing bag from Robinsons.
FAB and no tell tale hairs in the machine.
I'm lucky enough to have an old machine in the garage for horsey and doggy stuff but the bag means the filter doesnt get blocked up every wash!

ha ha, been there!
I washed a jasper on the quiet last week, but I don't have a tumble dryer and it's still not dry. I'm wondering if I dare smuggle it into the launderette for a spin dry?

The benefits of a horsey OH - we purposely went out and bought a big capacity washing machine when the last one bit the dust so we could fit stable rugs in! I think I run more horsey loads than I do for our clothes! Instead of putting reallty hairy stuff in (will kill your machine and give you itchy pants for years!) brush it down with a rubber curry comb first - gets loads of hair off.

my friend had 30 odd rugs to wash and dry in preparation for winter so cleaned out OH old cement mixer and washed them one by one with the aid of a hosepipe in that. lol. amazing. came out lovely too and the barn was like a chinese laundry with them all drip drying.

Now that is a truly excellent idea. It costs me an absolute fortune getting all my rugs washed every spring. Did she chuck some soap in, or just use plain water?

Glad it's not only me that does this too! :D

Remember to clean filter... I've just had to pay £45 to fix a blocked washing machine!!!!! Aaaarrrgh!!!!

Those big orange bags from Robinsons are brilliant - stops horse hair getting in all sorts of places!

I only have lightweight stable rugs ( which I layer up) so that I can put them in my washing machine! I wash them once a week to avoid them getting too soiled and have a nylon liner underneath and that way very few hairs stick to the rug.

My mum broke their washing machine by clogging it up with horse hair! My OH won't let me put horse stuff in ours so I take the rugs and numnahs to the laundrette.

But what happens to the hairs? Do they stay in the bag and stick to the rug?

Stay in the bag and shake that out outside.
As OP posted best to curry off the worst of the hair but I use it for blankets, rugs and dog vet beds to great success.
Any hair left on rug soon blows away.

I put rugs / boots / numnahs etc into an old duvet cover and tie a knot in the top. Keeps all the hair out of the machine :)

Remember to take items out of duvet outside otherwise your kitchen gets covered in hair

Turn cover inside out and shake / dry on line as normal.

Also use a pillow case for girths. Saves the buckles knocking on the drum.
