Height in young horses

Just musing really, but I have a 4YO warmblood mare who really is tiny. 15.2hh at a push however, both parents are 16.2hh + and her lineage is made up of substantial horses.

I did have one warmblood who grew a whole hand between the age of four and five - but maybe he was an odd ball (?).

Has anyone else had a horse that’s really shot up after the 4YO mark? To me, she looks pretty levelled off (I know she’s fat - she’s just had a month holiday after being backed).

Many level off then one day ride a bit weird and the owner looks at them and suddenly sees 4” have been added to their asses.

My friend bought a 15.2 cobxfriesian who is now 17hh and absolutely no idea where that came from.
 
I have one that is not a dissimilar type, was a first foal, was 15.2hh at 4 and now at 8 is probably 16hh. Very slow and steady grower. Not such a bad thing.
 
Been 2 years where did your mare end up? Mine has been pretty slow as well And is about 15.3 coming into her 4th year. Also worried she won't make it to 16/16.1

I have a small warmblood mare. Parents were all 16.2-ish lines (Royaldik/Heraldik/Primitive Proposal). Only one horse in her lineage is under 16hh. She is 14.3!

Woah, that is small. Thankfully mine made it to above 15 hands. She is very stocky and I can't imagine how much of a tank she will be at full grown. Since the filling out part hasn't happened yet haha. Already 1200 pounds

Your account turns to numbers if you ask admin to remove it. OP used to be called teddy. I believe they were having some health issues and decided to take some time away from socials.
You really need to post photos of your horse. (It wont help you but we always like photos!)

I would love to add photos. However how do you normally get past the size issue? My phone pics are too big. I'll try 1 and see how that goes.

There’s really not a whole load of point worrying about it- either they get taller or they don’t. I have 2 rising 4yr olds, 1 has grown 4 inches from last summer, the other has grown 1 inch

It can be a worry though. If the baby horse that you bred and raised with such care turns out to be too small for you to ride or too big for you to handle, that makes things rather sad and difficult. Worrying won't change the young horse's height, but certain decisions need to be made as a result of a horse's height and that IS a worry.
 
Gorgeous type! Quite short in the back for saddle fitting, would be a perfect size for me! my late 3yo only gained 1.5 inches (now 6) but have seen others (connie type) go from 14.2 to 15.1 with consistent work rising 5 through rising 6, wouldnt be suprised if they finish 15.2 either
