Heiniger clipper blades Vs Masterclip

Have clipped 3 times with Masterclip blades and hope to get another out of them before considering sharpening - I have some Heiniger blades from an old set of clippers which are identical to the Masterclip ones, so can't see why they wouldn't fit as stated.

However as the Master clip ones are significantly cheaper to buy, I wouldn't go to the expense of buying Heiniger blades.

I had done 2 full clips and 1 belly and neck and then a neck today I went blunt just at the end of the neck today (resulting in a tantrum as my line is horrid just under her jaw/ neck), was wondering if the heiniger would stay sharper for longer??

tbh my heiniger blades only went 3-4 clips before needed sharpening too, but depends on the coats you are clipping.

Might be a matter of biting the bullet and buying Heiniger blades and experimenting, but at £17.99 for the master clip blades, I will probably sharpen mine once then treat myself to a new set.

The Heinegar blades are made with quality Steel, wheras the masterclip ones are not. However you pays your money, you takes your choice, as someone once said. I normally recommend people use Heinegar blades on masterclip and any of the other Chinese made Heinegar copies that are on the market, just because they are better quality and I found they sharpen more easily. On clean well groomed horse I would expect to get 3 to 4 clips out of a set of blades, but scurf, grit and dust, can blunt blades in an instant. As can the wrong oil and excess tension, so always have a good spare set in your tack box, to save grief when one set goes blunt.

I have heineger clippers, on one set of blades I have done: 2 x chaser, 4 x blanket, 1 x full clips and taken off 2 sets of full feathers and they are still sharp. Ponies were a cob, a welsh, a clydesdale x and a NF so thick coats.

I usually get 7 full clips (3 on a 16.2 hann x and 4 on a hairy exmoor) plus 2 chaser clips on one set of blades before needing them sharpened. Based on this, I only use Heineger blades but hasten to add that the coats are always clean and dry before starting.

I have heiniger clippers only use there blades, I fully body clipped one large hairy warmblood and same on a arab still really sharp reckon they would do two more easily, not used the other kind but really like the heiniger ones they do a good job.
