A couple of vids from recent outings - hopefulyy showing the slightly less crazy side of Jerry.

I was greeted at the RC Area SJing qualifier by an HHO-er doing warm-up steward duty who had dared her OH to ask me 'are you a Gamebird?' :eek: :o and who had seen Jerry's Buckminster vids and dubbed him 'helicopter horse'. I thought that was quite fitting, though it might take an aviation expert to decide between a helicopter and a Harrier jump jet :p.

We were the first person from our RC to jump the Open qualifier in about 10 years so having spent the morning being Chef de Motivation and bullying our Novice team into a respectable number of double clears they then turned the tables on me to egg me on for the Open. Luckily most of them were on the verge of passing out when they saw the size of the fences so I didn't come in for too much 'motivation' ;). Jerry jumped clear in the first round and after a huuuuuuge (yawn!) delay finally got to jump our second round in the outdoor arena. In relation to the fence I had down can I mention that it was raining so hard I could barely see the fences, let alone a stride and it was now 6.15pm on the Sunday evening and having been on various dressage/riding test teams I had been at the venue since 8am the previous day :mad:.

Please forgive the language of some of our more excitable RC members who were spectating! We finished 7th individually. There were 4 DCs and I didn't realise that they would place those of us who had 4fts over the two rounds on our second round time, so I had my foot firmly off the accelerator all the way round :rolleyes: :mad:.

And from today - the least crazy of all! A vid of a part of our jumping lesson - mostly working on the bits between the fences which is why they're not huge jumps (1.10-1.20). On the other hand I think it's pretty cool that I am now brave enough to call these 'small' (and no, no alcohol was consumed first! ;))

He didn't look quite so exuberant over the last 3 of the lesson video? And :eek: to the flyer i the second round video!
 
He is looking much better than the last videos I saw of him (some time back lol). You ride him really well. My OH was looking over my shoulder and in the lesson video said 'go back go back - she jumped a kid' lol I had to point out that said toddler was in fact just next to the jump :)
 
Oh, and in answer to the helicopter vs harrier jump jet? Definitely helicopter - if his tail was any longer you really would take off :eek: ;) :D
 
He looks great you have done a really good job with him and he has come in loads! Well done for jumping in the rain I would have bottled it by then :) The lesson vid is fab and he looks a lot more fluid and is letting you ride him way more. Keep the updates coming. On another note how is Fugly doing?
 
Wow, he does have some scope doesn't he!! (Does that sentence even make sense..?!) Love the name 'Helicopter Horse' too :)

He does look like he is getting better in your lesson, keep up the good work!
 
Wow, he really is getting the idea now isn't he. When you first had him he used to look almost as if he was panicking but now he looks all cool, calm and collected - fab, the sky's the limit I reckon :).
 
Wheeee, Jerry! He's just so boingy and scopey but he does seem to be waiting for you a lot more now :)

My face was like :eek: because I also thought the small person was under the fence! I know we're not as civilised in the north as those down south but still, using a kid as a filler is a bit too far :p
 
He is looking better already :) the one at Richmond looks as if he thinks he knows best so taking his strides out and taking over lol.

The lesson looks at different horse and he is waiting for you :) are you keeping him?
who do you have lessons with I reconise the voice but cannot think who it is :(
 
Thank you all, he is much less worried about the whole game now and happy to chill a bit more on the way into a fence. I have also learnt to ride him forwards a bit more which helps. He takes a lot of confidence from me, and I take it from him (ie. knowing that he will always find a way to jump, however bad a job I make) so we're in the opposite of a vicious circle at the moment, whatever one of them is! :)

He's not actively being advertised and my husband is keen for us to have him - he's got a bit of a man-crush on him :p which is a first from my usually anti-horse husband. I'm banking on the fact that he's a long way from being everybody's ride to keep the other punters from the door whilst we try to scrape some pennies together. Anyone fancy lending me a fiver? ;)

The lady sitting under the middle part of the treble is the lady whose name he runs under but who is not his owner. It's kind of complicated! She owns a couple of other eventers, one of whom had the lesson before mine so I went with her in her lorry. One of her horses has won two of its three novice starts so far so I always feel a bit like the black sheep!

The lesson's with Heidi Woodhead - I go to her as often as I can afford, usually about once a month.
 
I hope you get so keep him! I too love him and would miss seeing his updates!!

Bless I really think he is fab.....not that I'd want to jump him..... :)
 
Ha ha! That HHO-er steward was me! Just for the record I didn't dare OH to ask the question - he did that all by himself! I was pretty mortified at the time :o

I was particularly impressed by the shoulder-in and one-tempi flying changes in the (quagmire) warm up arena. Must admit couldn't see much of your actual jumping round due to the rain!

What dreadful weather, think I've just about dried out now. We'd suffered two days of it too as we were eventing up at Hutton on Saturday the doing 'our bit' for the riding club on Sunday.

Oh I thought he belonged to that lady - she seems to show a fair bit of interest in him. Any news on selling PerfectPoppy yet? Is the 4yo advertised now? Surely when you get those two away you will have enough pennies for Jerry :D

I'll take the credit for the shoulder in but the changes were surely only 2 or 3 time? Jerry can have the credit for those as I'm fairly sure I didn't ask for them!
Nice to meet you and your OH - I assume that's his voice bawling out the numbers as I'm approaching fence 5?

Perfect Poppy is as perfect as ever except in the sales department :(. She did get pulled out of the field the other week, bathed and plaited and taken to do an RoR class which she won by miles and got the most enormous brass horse figure trophy which fittingly had been donated by my boss in memory of his father :). The 4yo will be coming back from his hols in the next couple of weeks to be advertised but I'm going to struggle to ride 4 - 3's hard enough :(.

Jerry would never make a speed horse as he spends far too much time in the air! Fugs is back in ridden work and currently trying his best to entertain me with sudden spooks, spins and shoulder-dropping :mad:. He won't jump for a bit but I think he could do some BD in a few weeks.
 
So.... if the general consensus (as it seems to be everywhere I take him) is 'we love him but we'd rather you rode him than us' ;) then can we start an HHO whip-round? Go on, I bet we could find enough spare change down the back of our collective sofas to make a Gamebird very happy indeed :p
