I really want to send a message back to myself in 1974 but failing that, you guys will have to do. I remember watching a horse show and wondering whether I would ever get a pony and enter a competition. Well yes but it's taken 40 years!
This week I entered my very first competition on my lovely Connie. Dressage prelim. We got 62.4% and a yellow rosette. Just can't say how happy and proud I am.

OMG, 1974 , as a lunatic pony club type, I rode in my first point to point and have been hooked ever since. Came from a totaly non horsey family but just wanted it.

Well done! I was the same as you at that time, desperate to win a rosette at the gymkhanas we went to, but on riding school ponies we rode once a week that was always going to be a tall order. I finally got my own horse in my late 40s, and getting in the top 3 always feels particularly special because back in 1974 local shows generally only gave rosettes to the top 3. If you were really lucky they went down to 4th (not that I ever won one, but it gave a bit more hope). Once you've won one the others come more easily, so keep going!

Aw sweetie. That is just lovely and what every pony mad kid who thinks they'll never have it needs to know :) :)

I was there as well. Turn the clock thirty odd years forward and I have four of them :). Will never now make it round Hickstead, but a frilly at the local comp centre is fine by me :)

Another one here :) My mum and dad bought sis and I an aged ride aand drive gelding in1975 and we were both over the moon :D I put up a thread the other week about how 15 year old me would have been amazed at us having our own place, four horses and a wagon! I was reminded of her last night, while stuffing bags with hay in the persisting it down rain, SHE wouldn't have moaned :)
