Firstly, hello *waves*, I've only ever ventured here to read and maybe reply to the odd post, but thought I'd bite the bullet and go for it properly!

In September I set myself the target of completing an Intro before I'm 30 (April 2009). I've had a while off horses so have been brought back into it very gently by my OH. I'm possibly getting a horse to loan at xmas that has Noviced previously, had time off for a foal and being slowly brought back into work, so I have a few questions if that's ok?

1. If she's been novice, is she still allowed to Intro? Or will I have to go HC (and potentially look stupidly as great horse, shame about the rider).

2. Because she has had a tendon issue in the past, part of the loan agreement stipulates that she can only do a maximum of 4 Intros next season, so not worth me joining BE for. I've read that people on a ticket are nearly always ballotted out, is this true?

Thanks for reading.

If your horse has points at Novice, then yes you will have to compete HC, but you can also do an Open Intro (although there aren't that many of them!)
I think you're only allowed to do 4 events on a day ticket anyway!
It is true that people on day tickets are the first to be balloted, but I was on day tickets for a while & can honestly say that I was never balloted!

If you can offer to help at an event or supply a helper then you will be looked on favourably in case of a ballot- pick your events wisely too- some ballot every year- others are less popular.
Some places do Open Intro classes now- but Im not sure if there are any restrictions re; Number of horse points- could be an option for you?

Open Intros, forgive me for being a bit thick, but are they bigger than Intros?? I'm very new to this competing lark and don't want to overface myself!

I fence judged alot when I was down south this summer, will def offer my services again now I'm up north.

No, Open Intros are just the same dimensions as ordinary Intros - but a bit like Open PN classes, they are open to all. Means you don't have to compete HC

Nope, unless she had a double clear she shouldn't have any points

Noo, Open Intros are exactly the same as any other Intro - it just means that horses with points can compete and win prizes in their own section basically!

Open intros are the same height as Intros. If the horse has no points you can do normal intros.

Really excited to hear you hope to do it next year! Good luck with it. Im sure you will be fine.

One thing though ... Stop saying how rubbish you are!!!! You are doing really well and improving all the time. You need to have a bit of belief in yourself. OK, lecture over!!

Ooo I've been made to feel very welcome, thank you!

Thanks for clarifying the whole 'open' thing, makes sense now!

I've been a total eventing nut all my life, but never had the guts to give it a go myself, was always content being the groom, but I'm going to go for it!

MM - thanks for the lecture, sometimes I need it! I've got some more recent video and pics, will post in gallery this afternoon I think.

Thanks again, and any other handy tips and hints will be gratefully received, especially if someone can point me in the direction of where to get all the clobber cheap! I have2 hats and that's it! (For competing in!)

Thanks Diane...just off to check on BE website to see if she has any points....

She's noviced once and came 22 so no points I'm guessing?

The horse can also pick up points for double clears!! ie clear SJing and clear XC on the same day..

Good Luck for the season!!!

... got a couple of years yet and hopefully got a horse who will do it (dark bay horse in my signature) - once he gets stronger and stops injuring himself!
