I thought that since you lovely people are my working day entertainment and have been for the last 2 years, I should best say hello, rather than being just a voyeur. :) That and the fact joining in with the posting might make my days go even quicker and I have just seen the soap box!

So I ride a cob. He's not quite 15hh. I am quite tall and not a waif. I have backed him myself as a novice. Oh, and he's hairy.

Just thought I'd get that lot out of the way!

So, this is Small Horse (or Pig as he's called most of the time), I've had him 18 months having taken him on loan when my lovely old horse injured himself. He was a 17.2hh warmblood so just a bit different, but beggers can't be choosers. Actually, my sister found him and just turned up with him and then refused to let me shave off all his hair! Was supposed to be selling him on, but ended up buying him and the rest is history in the making.

We do a little bit of everything, some things a lot better than others, but he's completely stolen my heart!

A few pics of the Hairy Beast.

hiya, congrats on your first post ;) i too was a lurker for a long time before posting and now there's no stopping me!
your beast/pig/small horse is gorgeous! look foward to hearing a lot more about him x

Hairy beast is gorgeous :) Certainly has a pop in him too!

Hello and welcome, if you brave soapbox again feel free to join us at the bar for a drink or several :D

welcome. he's cute :)

how big is he? I don't know if it's a perspective thing, but those combi blocks make him look tiny  They're only about 4ft3 to the top and they look taller than him

You stayed on the sidelines for two years!!!!!
How in gords name did you manage that? How on earth have you contained yourself all this time???
It would have killed me!!

Oh.. sorry welcome, and lovely horse!

Hello!

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news however it appears your lad is not quite 'all there' in the head.

If he was a really clever boy he would have simply stepped over the bottom pole and walked under the top one. Look at him taking the long way around :D

Love him to bits, can't wait to hear more!!

Thank you all, I am rather fond of him even if he is a horror sometimes!

Nickicb, horses are actually in Hampshire, I live and work in Reading, but like keeping them somewhere properly rural, always a country girl at heart. :)

He really does have an amazing jump for a little chunky horse, though he is just a little bit bigger than the jump wings at 14.3hh. That fence still looked mighty big when he was standing next to it though. Sadly I have no where near the jumping talent he does and the highest we've done under saddle is about 3'6" and he very, very nearly jumped me off, so won't be doing that again until I am much improved. I am very happy pottering around 2'3" - 2'6" (as long as it's SJing!). An embarassing example of why I should not be jumping bigger fences and I have much worse than this. :o

And my dressage insturctor keeps telling me to shave all his hair off as well, but I've got used to it now and can't bring myself to do it! I also need his mane for jumping as proven above!! That and the fact he's out 24/7 and he'd get cold. I might take his feathers off and pull him in the spring (people think he looks quite welshy, so that length mane), but I don't think it will ever all come off! Besides, then I'd need a new user name! :D

Please, please don't hog him - he is gorgeous as he is!! My cob was hogged when I bought him and it took 9 months for it to grow back - he is so much more handsome doing the hairy look (and it gives me something to hang on to over the jumps!!) :)

he's lovely! reminds me a lot of my hairy mare :) i kept her hairy for ages and then took the plunge and whipped it all off- she looks much better all clipped out with baldy legs!

Welcome!

Now I'm not a cob fan, but he is special. Looks as though there is more than a touch of welsh there! Please don't hog him and clip his feathers - if he's out 24/7 he'll need them summer and winter.
