I am Alex who is 41 years old male and just decided to learn horse riding from scratch, I am living in Edinburgh, a beautiful city.

Hope I won't let myself down.

Hi Alex ?

What made you want to learn now?
.

My son James loves horse riding, he is 10 years old now. Since he was 8 years old he wanted to learn it, but for some reason he just started his first lesson early this month, and he really enjoyed it.
I have always wanted to learn this beautiful sport for a long time, so I decided to join him, although my dream is to be able to do jumping, but at this age, to be more practical, my aim is that I can trek with him, join some events together.
We just got fully settled in Edinburgh this year, so just got more spare time to do this.

Ooh, be careful. We have a forum member who joined when his daughter got a pony and many years later she's a cracking rider and he has his own horse as well ?

Welcome to the forum, Alex.

I started regular weekly lessons as an adult, at 44 years old, after having done pony treks and trail rides very occasionally as a teenager and adult.

Jumping is a useful skill to learn for hacking/trekking/trail riding.

I've been on a horse that doesn't like to get its feet wet, riding through the forest the day after heavy rain. I let the horse decide whether it wanted to go to the left or to the right of each puddle. For one puddle, though, I saw that he was heading straight forward, not going off to one side or the other, so I was ready for it. and he did a nice long, low jump. It made me smile from ear to ear.

Thank you for showing up, you really encouraged me to learn this beautiful sport, and yes, jumping is my dream, I will definitely learn it by all means.
My very first class will take place on 2nd Feb, I can't wait for that day to come just like kids expecting their presents.
I think I must fully prepared for it at this age, I have got all gears ready, and doing some workouts everyday.
Let's see whether this old dog can do it or not :p

Can't believe another year has passed since the last post here.

Today I did my first jumping lesson, I jumped the horse 30cm with trot, so happy! my dream came true!😁
Well done!

What a lovely thing to do with your son; I have really fond memories of having riding lessons with my mum (we were both rather late starters, me mid teens and her nearly 50).
