Hi everyone, I have been registered for a bit, but have never posted anything. Until today as I am a bit baffled! My two horses are losing hair as they would in Spring! Anyone else's horse doing the same? If so, why now?

Hello, and welcome! Was just going to post about that, to ask others if their horses are also moulting. But yes, ours are moulting too, for a few weeks now! Very baffled as well, especially as it's not even been warm (well not here in Derbyshire anyway). Very odd indeed. And like their shedding a winter coat, even my mare who is fully clipped in the winter, and never grew a winter coat back.

Yep! It is all to do with hours of daylight I believe. They are shedding ready to grow in their winter coats (shuffles off to plug in clippers)

HaffiesRock is correct, it's to do with hours of daylight and not heat, my lad is starting to shed too, noticed it a couple of days ago :)

My two as well, but both have recently been diagnosed with Cushings. I was wondering whether it was anything to do with that, but probably not.

Mines been doing it a little but, today there was ridiculous amounts!!! I came online to check if it was just him!!

Tiny Fuzzy eventually stops shedding winter coat by end of June, then starts shedding summer coat by end of July - its now falling very quickly :)
As JB says, its normal to start shedding summer coat in August. Unless you rug hard by end July to keep summer coat, but thats usually only applicable to those showing native ponies till HOYS :)
