hi there-
I've just joined this forum as I am hoping to chat to some like minded people! I am a Canadian who has recently relocated to south Devon. I have been here for a month and a half, now. At home in Canada I owned a mare that I had bought as a baby and trained up and then competed in jumpers in Canada and the United States (in my avatar), but I sold her when I moved over here. It was very difficult. I have just found a place to ride here and have gone a couple of times now, and it is great to be back in the saddle.

Hi Maple Leaf and welcome I only joined the forum about 2 weeks ago and love it People are so lovely and give lots of wonderful advice Hope your enjoying living in England:):)

Hi Maple leaf & welcome to the forum. shame you had to sell your mare but I hope you're enjoying the UK? I was born in Canada but hardly ever go back :(

If you wanted more involvement with horses without the responsibilty of having your own, you could look for a share near you. would be less expensive than taking riding lessons locally and also more flexible

Enjoy!!

Hi,

Another Canadian :) I hope you are getting settled in Devon, it's a beautiful county, crammed with horses too, how long have you been in the UK? Is this a permanent move? Are you fed up with people asking if you are American yet?:) I grew up in East Devon around Honiton, but have lived all over Devon.

I moved the other way, UK to ON, and had to leave my horses behind so I know the wrench it can be. I expect you'll find English riding horses and the whole horse keeping thing a bit different for a bit.

Yep it was tough selling her... but she is at the most wonderful home now with a kid who loves her to death. I get updated regularly with pictures, so I couldn't ask for much more!
The move is not permanent. I am here for a year (minimum) for a job. I really like it here. It is a similar climate to the west coast of Canada (where I'm from), and the country side is beautiful.
I'm hoping I can do a share of some sort on a horse. I appreciate being able to ride a horse, but I'd love to have something regular to ride that I can get to know!
