Hi y'all!
I just joined and I'm so excited to get to know all of you! In June, I got 3 of my own little mini donkeys, and I love them so much! I had to sell my little male, Tim, in Dec. last year, but I still have my two girls, Ruby and Lilly. We are working together, and we are all learning a lot together! They are a mother daughter, bonded pair. 8 and 5 years old. When I got them, they were super skittish and standoffish, but we are working on it, and they are getting much better!
Yesterday was the first time Ruby let me lift, and pick out her hooves! That was amazing for her! I'm so proud of the girls, and for how far they've come!
I love horses, and always have, and they are my first love, but I love my donkeys too, and I was unable to get a horse right now, so instead I settled with my little miniatures.
I do get to spend some time around horses though which is awesome! I volunteer at my local animal rescue, and I get to work with the horses there. She even lets me ride them! I ride almost every week on one of the horses. Sometimes they are hers, and other times they are rescues. They aren't really lessons though, just us riding about, around through the fields, and trails. She is a certified instructor though and does give me some tips, and I love that. I hope to be able to get lessons with her once a week over the summer once the snow is gone. I love all the horses so much though, and I love being at the rescue! The horses there have done so much for me! I love horses!
I also got about 10 riding lessons in the fall of 2019, and that was the best fall of my life so far! The horses, and the instructor were so awesome! I learned so much from all of them! I went from riding once on a beach in Mexico, to having 10 lessons behind me, and knowing how to tack up, untack, walk/lope figure eights, stop square, back up, ride double, lunge, and ride out on a trail.
After those lessons, I began volunteering at the rescue, and there I learned how to do up the cinch all the way so it was actually tight, how to lead unwilling/spooky horses, how to ride out a buck/spook, how to post the trot, how to ride with one hand and neck rein, and I am working on learning how to sit the trot, and tips would be great!
So I don't know too too much about horses, and I don't have very much experience, but I have a deep love and passion for them, and I live and breather for horses. Hopefully this summer I will be able to get lessons with the rescue owner, and hopefully adopt my own horse from her! I can't wait to see how this year turns out!

Here are some pictures of my chubby girls...

It's excellent that you have made good progress with handling their hooves. How have they been with the farrier?
Well, at first they were so bad!! I felt so bad for the poor farrier. They were so bad, and I'm sure it was traumatizing to the girls, but I needed their hooves done or it would just continue the problems.
That was the first 2 times, but I've worked them a lot now, and they are so much better now!! Lilly is so great! I never tie them up, or even hold them on a lead when I am practicing lifting, or picking out. I just do it at liberty, and they're really good. So for the farrier I do hold her lead as he trims, but it's not necessary for her. She's really good.
Ruby is ok. She's definitely waaay better than she was. But she's still pretty bad, and no one can tell that that is her being really good! Unless they saw the girls before our training. They would still classify the girls as "baad" girls. Ruby is pretty good about the fronts. But getting the overgrown back one hurts. And it hurts even more to put extra pressure on the overgrown hoof when trimming the opposite hind.
So I guess they are okay, they don't try and run the farrier over, or rear up, and they never head butt me so I guess that's good! They're doing really good with the clicker training though, and I'm sure they're gonna get away better with practice!

@ycbm, yep, @Meowy Catkin is correct, I'm from northern BC. If you ever heard me talk, you would never say I sound american lol! I have been told I have a Canadian accent..of course I don't think I do, but I think I'm biased :p I just like to literally abbreviate everything, and smush words together until they aren't even words any more! I say 'watcha wanna do', a lot! And other things like that. 'Y'all'(you all), 'c'mere'(come here) 'wachoo want'(what do you want), are all just some of the things I say almost daily lol!
I hate living here though! It's so cold, and summer is so short, it sucks! I hate the cold, but it takes me a while to get warm, so I'm pretty much always cold, you will rarely ever see me without a hoodie on. Maybe a couple times over the summer, but even then I'm wearing a long sleeve button down plaid instead. It's March, and it snowed last night!! What the heck?! It's supposed to be spring! I should be seeing grass, and leaves, and warmness! Not snow!. I really hate snow, and everyone knows it lol! We joke that we have at least 3 springs every year, cause last week the snow was melting, no more on the roads leading around to places, the donkeys were happy with the warm weather, it was warm enough to go outside without a coat on, it was great!
Then last night, it snows, and now the roads are covered in just a thin layer of snow, but it's snow! In March! And now I have to wear a coat, and blah blah blah. I gave up wearing gloves the first of the month though, I don't even know where they are any more! Eventually I just get mad at the cold, and then I decide that if I start to dress as though it's warmer, it will get warmer! It never works, but on March 1st, gloves come off, and they are not seen again until about end of Dec, early Jan the next year! :p
I'm kinda weird in those ways lol!

I suddenly remembered who it was so here is a post they made in case you want to Private Message (now called 'start conversation') them. :)
