Hello everyone... I'm new here, just thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm living in Cape Town South Africa and share my life with two lovely mares, a chestnut Thoroughbred and a nearly black Warmblood, and three gorgeous geldings, a bay Thoroughbred, a 17.3 grey Hanoverian and a 4 year old Leopard spotted Appaloosa.

I'm lucky to live in the most beautiful area. We have mountain trails and sand dunes, forests and beaches, an incredible valley with a river to swim in, grasslands and bush and acres of vineyards and farmlands. Unfortunately this means I spend most of my time hacking out and not enough time in the arena!

So, that's me :-) I suggest you all come out and visit!

Hello from Buenos Aires Krysztyna, welcome!!!
I´m also new here and, haven´t introduced myself yet. At the moment I just enjoy HHO, lots of information to read!
I own 5 horses, 3 of them too young to ride now. Compete with 3 in SJ (not mine though). Not eventing at the moment, i´m a little over my ideal wieght but, working a lot and training 7 horses every day.
Soon I´ll be posting pics of my boys and girls.
Apologies for my poor spelling and grammar!

Nice to meet you all! Sadly not part of the pony club and currently not even competing:( Although I did enter my spotty boy in a young horse show... we did the four and under dressage class (walk in, circle, change rein, circle, walk out) We came third! I'm planning a trip to South America next year. What's the riding like in Buenos Aires? Your horses are all so handsome- haven't quite worked out how to post pics yet but when I do you'll be the first to know:)
Better get back to soaking my sugarbeet, it's breakfast time!

Hello from Somerset, UK...the summer country of cider apple orchards, fat cows and even fatter ponies (if you're not careful). I have just the one delightful new forrest pony, sane level headed and my lifetime companion. I keep being nagged by friends in SA to move out, but would have to bring my friend and I am concerned about AHS, and I have worked hard to acheive what I have so far in my life and I'm pretty happy with my lot, so think I will stay put. However, I am planning to come out for a riding hol of a lifetime for my 40th...any recommendations/suggestions? Not sure I want to be sat on "lunch" though unless it can go really fast...chortle

Hello MariaToo

AHS is a big worry to all horse owners within the protection or infected zones. Luckily, most of Cape Town falls under the free zone, with the surrounding areas being only surveillance. This means that, unless you are competing and need to travel to other zones or in a big yard which may be high risk, the average happy hacker needn't be vaccinated. Most of us will take precautions during the AHS season; bringing the horses in during dawn and dusk, fly spray etc. The movement bans are strict and there is a warning system in place through the AHS Trust.

As for horsey holidays, it totally depends where you are in South Africa. There is some awesome riding near Hermanus; dunes, beach and bush. I rode up the Wild Coast a few years ago with some friends and that was incredible. You can also ride the mountain trails in the Drakensberg and the Lesotho border or do the Wine Route in the Western Cape with added bonus of alcohol:)

Hi Krysztyna,
We visited last year on our honeymoon. We flew to Jo'burg and then a long transfer upto the Waterburg biosphere region in North West SA We were based at an amazing lodge called Jembisa and rode every day, galloped with zebra and wildebeest, even saw a white rhino! We then crossed into Botswana and joined the Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris, riding by day, camping by night- loads of elephants in Mashatu
We would love to come back but not this year as i am hoping to get another horse for my OH very soon!

Alcohol sounds good...always braver after a half of something or glass of wine. Although we can be arrested for being drunk in charge of an equine in the uk...most of my friends are in or around Cape Town, its a big move to make.

Riding in Buenos Aires is really nice!

hi, nice to have new members. my OH is from SA, he says it is stunning. nicer weather than good old England, too...
easiest way to post a pic is to open a free photobucket.com account, upload pics to there, resize on there (use the "edit" bit above every pic, it'll take you to a new page with the image bigger, then resize to stock size, either messageboard or a bit smaller if you want, save changes, overwriting previous image is easiest to save confusion!, go back to album), then click on the 4th line below the image, where it says IMG Code, "copied" will flash up in yellow where you've clicked. then start a post on here, and right click and "paste" the Image URL into place.
easy peasy!
