Hello Everyone, Due to a long and chronic illness ( not the big C ) ??. I am about to embark on a dream I have had for a long time, and that is to own a miniature Shetland Pony. My dream willed me through many a night in the ICU.
I am fortunate and blessed and much recovered, .. I pick her up on Saturday. Advice very welcome, but no negativity please.
Due to knee replacements, I can no longer ride. Did anyone else read the article that stated ‘ Woman who hang around Horses have lower blood pressure, lower heart beats and on average live longer !!!
My days of being a Price Phillip pony club contender are long gone, The Gymkhanas too..long hacks also.
I know they can be little monkeys... but my kids turned out ok..and beautifully mannered.
Part of living my dream is for us to undergo Pet Therapy training, Service pony.
I will keep you all posted...Feels a bit like getting my first Aga...I was thrilled and terrified at the same time, now I wouldn’t be without one...unusual comparisons, but I hope you understand my meaning.

Absolutely understand . An Aga is a lifestyle statement and ongoing commotment (rather like my RHI accredited wood burning boilers )SHETLANDS TOO ARE A STATEMENT , Possibly one thatv psycho analysts will argue about . My oldest friend has just aquired two such beasts from the island. I call them pinky and perky , ultimately they will make me pay for this. LOL

Welcome and as others have said photos once she arrives please
I definitely will, and thank you everyone for making me so welcome.
Hi!

Just hoping the pony will have company? If not, you definitely need two, and what better excuse!
Yes

Welcome. I can highly recommend little ones to bring you daily joy, I have two mini shetlands and a miniature horse x, they bring so much to my life. My mare is just starting to tolerate them (the two mini shetlands spend most of their days play fighting (including playing on just two legs!), nipping each other’s legs, weaving in amongst my mare and elderly miniature horse, whilst they try to eat their hay x.

Be aware, they do multiply, I started off with one as a companion for a bigger horse, then when the big horse was sold, the first mini got his own mini for Christmas (pets aren’t supposed to have pets right?) and then the third wee one arrived as a livery let slip she had a single mini in her back garden, hubby built him a stable and he came to us on livery and we were gifted him when the livery moved on. They will find a way to multiply even if you don’t want them too ?. I would have a field full of them if I could (and cope with more than 4 horses!!).
