Hello all i'm Glyn and i've been around horses all my life.

I am a HGV driver, and I am looking for experience driving horse boxes for free. (Or a bacon sandwich) :-)

As I am looking at working as a professional horse box driver soon, and as I am newly unemployed, nows the time to do this.

Can anyone help or know anyone who can help, I am in the South East.

Cheers

Why don't you contact the bigger companies like Lambourn Horse Transport, they might offer a temp job and assess you.
The job would probably be as a groom, but you would soon get the hang of it, and would be able to drive when box is empty.
Main thing is to drive very "cautiously" steady driving, that would be the only difference. Obviously there are rules specific to horses, but common sense and experience of handling awkward animals will only come with experience, and training. There are particular ways of handling horses that not everyone knows, I think it is known as natural horsemanship.
You could get a job as a yardman in a big local racing yard and take it from there.

I'd second getting in touch with the larger companies.

If you were nearer I'd happily let you have a drive around in our box (7.5t) but I'm the other end of the country.
