Hello I'm new on here and I am looking for inspiration for a show name for my lovely lady. She doesn't have a registered posh name and I dont know too much about her past as she was bought from auction but I think she was brought from Ireland as a hunter then used as a broodmare then as a hack. Her name is Sharna, she's 15.3hh 16yrs idxtb. We're hoping to do a bit of everything together and I've had her since september and love her to pieces.

Dont know if some pics will help - sorry they are not too good!

I'd be really grateful for any suggestions.

I am useless at thinking up names for all of mine, let alone helping someone else think up names for theirs....so sorry I am of no help to you whatsoever, but welcome to the forum.

Welcome - Your horse is lovely.

It would help to know a bit of her personality, as you haven no sire or damm to go off. We have a 'Honey Monster', because she is one!

My daughter thinks everything should be named afetr something from lord of the rings

Frodo Baggins
Samwise Gamgee ( quitre apt for a horse)
Shadow fax (of course)

All these are a bit masculine though.
How about

Marvelous Mad Madame Mimm
Hot to trot
Blarney girl
Moomintroll
Irish autumn (as you got her in Sept)

Mmm can only thingkof cheesy things now like Irish jig, or Irish coffee, bay ballyhooly

Make sure you let us know what you decide!

Google says Sharna is a Hindu name derived from an expression meaning 'one who guards'... other sources also have the meaning as 'security/guardian/protection. How about something inspired by that sort of theme? Trying to think of names that aren't too 'tough' for a mare though!
Guardian Angel
Guiding Light
Heaven Sent
Sweet Sanctuary
Gentle Sentinel
Oh, I'm rubbish at this sort of thing!

Hi

I'm new on here too.

Sharna does look lovely.

I think Irish Autumn is a great name as suggested by Magicmillbrook.

Also what about Irish Gold or Cashel Bay (an actual place in Connemara, Ireland).

Isn't there another horse called cashel bay?? might be wrong but it sounds familiar!!

I like the idea of the Guardian Angel or Heaven Sent though - I would choose something down those lines!

Wow thanks ever so much for some really lovely ideas! I think I like Irish Autumn best. Now going to fill in entry form for dressage next weekend now Sharna's got a great name.

Thanks for the responses.
