Hi there,
Saying hello as I've just joined....
Also hoping to get some advice/opinions on towing with a Freelander 2. I've seen the towing forum which is brill but it's taking a while to read the thousands of posts!
I've inherited a Freelander 2 and have read mixed opinion on whether it's ok for towing a horse trailer.
To date I've towed with an Mercedes ML350 which was brilliant but that is now sold. If £ was no object I would replace it with something similar, same again or maybe Toureg. But now I have been given the Freelander to drive which is great but is much smaller and only has a 2l engine. the logical thing would be to fit a tow bar and use it to tow rather than spend a fortune on a big 4x4. I can't find the VIN plate in the Freelander (I think it's under the carpet which I can lift up) but the towing info I found online states its max towing capacity is 2000kg. I've got a 15.2 ID cross and he'll be travelling in my Ifor 505classic, so those together plus some water, haylage and tack etc would be no more than 2k. I will only take one horse. Technically I it's think ok and within legal limits but my question is......is it actually safe and or sensible?? The ML could power up a steep hill no problem with the trailer on, accelerate on the motorway if I needed to get past a swerving lorry etc, could the Freelander do that with the trailer?? I don't want to have any snaking or swinging, or be pushed forward by the trailer if I had to brake in an emergency...
Any experience or thoughts would be massively appreciated
