I have been watching this forum for the last couple of days as I was so upset about the Amersham horses, so have decided to join to get advice on what to do to help and discuss with like minded people.

I live in Norfolk. I don't have any horses but have a cocker spaniel and 2 cats. I was brought up in Weston super Mare and rode loads when I was younger. We used to have lessons on the beach which was great. I was never fortunate enough to have my own pony but had a couple on loan and was one of those kids who was always hanging about at their riding school. I am still obsessed by horses though and absolutely love them.

I have tried to take it back up a couple of times again but seem to have lost my nerve which makes me very sad. So if anyone has any tips on how to get my nerve back or knows any good riding schools on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, I'd be grateful for any advice.

Sorry can't help with the riding schools as not in your area, but just saying hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm sure someone in your area will be posting to help you soon.

Hi - welcome to the forum!
It is quite addictive so be warned, you must remember that you still have to eat and sleep and go to school/work!
I was very much like you, couldn't afford a pony when I was a kid but rode everyone else's and did a lot of hanging round riding schools!
I then got my first horse 10 years ago at the ripe old age of 30. He taught me so much - we had a roller coaster relationship with more ups and downs than you'd imagine but I always loved him!
Sadly he had to be pts last April with severe colic at the age of 15.
I now have a gorgeous big grey giant called Jerry as I soon found that I now couldn't live without a horse.
As for getting your nerve back - you need an understanding riding school. Ideally with an instructor who will let you do lots of things in your comfort zone - whether it's walking round an indoor school or just being near a horse, then just giving you a little encouragement to extend that comfort zone as you feel you can.
Good luck!

Nice to meet you, but echo the advice about addiction! I should be outside now doing various chors with a fork and shovel! If you hang around here long enough I can guarantee that you will feel the need to give it all another try and get lots of helpful advice about how to get back in the saddle.

Hi & welcome
Hope you find a good riding school - I'm a long way away from you so can't help. If you get the right support and take it slowly, I'm sure you'll get back into it.
I took my horse to the beach a Burnham on sea a couple of years ago and it was great. What a lovely way to learn to ride! I'm working in Weston Super Mare this week, but don't think I'll get to see the sea!

Hello again Pringle and welcome

You were saying in a previous thread about visiting the ILPH who are local to you - Im sure they would love to have some regular help and maybe they could get you back on board again?

If ever you are travelling through South Wales, PM me as I have soooooo many that need exercise
