Hi!! I was wondering if anyone could help me?? I know it's a little cheeky but I could really do with some advice and you all seem like a friendly, knowledgable bunch!
I am in the process of buying a pure-bred Arab. I have done everything you should do on a trial (except vetting - I only went to see him yesterday) and he was fantastic. I just have one small question I wonder if anyone can help with? I am not wanting to do anything but hack out on him. When I got him into a canter, his head went right under straight away, and stayed there. I was wondering if it is just because that's what he does or if it could be an underlying problem. I am not well schooled myself and was wondering if it was because I wasn't well balanced? The lady who I am buying him off says that it is just the way he is and I will get used to it. If that is the case it is fine by me because I found it quite comfy.
Please help

Hello and welcome.

It is probably just the way he has been trained and has become natural to him. I would suggest taking someone experienced along with you to see him if you are unsure. Better to put your mind at rest.

Hi Loubielou, I am also still pretty new here.
Welcome to the forum I hope you fit in well
I am no expert, far from it but I would say it was a schooling issue and perhaps has been ridden incorrectly in draw reins.
Could you take someone highly experienced with you to see how he is, or take a few videos and post them on here for opinions if the first option is not possible.

Thank-you for your reply nat1003!

I am just so nervous about buying another as I have had to sell my previous horse as he took my confidence on the ground. We have been looking for another for 3 months and have seen some shockers and been told quite a few porkys!! It's REALLY hard to keep telling myself that there are some genuine people out there!!
Thank-you again!

I wish I had now. It is difficult to get someone to come with me. If it is a schooling issue, do you think it will cause me any problems when out hacking? I will be doing some schooling with him, but don't want to jump into that straight away.
Thanks also for your advice, it is really appriciated

I would hack him out if you haven't already done so in all the paces you wish to work in, so you know how he is on a hack.
As some horses do ride differently on hacks than schooling.
So it may still be an issue whilst hacking it may not.

If you are seriously interested in the horse you could perhaps go and try him again and take a camerman with you. I know it may seem rude but I would do the same if I was unable to take someone experienced with me and wanted opinions on the matter.

Hi again, just wondering if anyone had an opinion on whether it is going to be a battle trying to correct the draw rein problem. Also, why do peole train with them?
