OH MY GOD - the mod on NR has thrown his teddies out the pram and removed everyones pm box, stopped posts from being edited etc

Ah, I was wondering what was going on...Thought I'd been naughty
Glad its not just me.
I can't see me paying £10 (and I hope others don't either - how rediculous!) NR was good for the swap shop but I rarely posted or ventured elsewhere.
I've pretty much lost all respect for the site now. I did actually quite like it (kept my nose out of the teenagers posting B&W ****PICS**** of them pouting with their ponies and stuck with the entertaining bits) but come on - if you decide to start charging people they're going to have a moan. And then they'll get over it. Some will leave, some will stay. Grr.
im also from the dark side, buttt have been a member here for a couple of years now i think and after forgetting my username and password (and recently remembering it!) im here to stay...
since i cant remember introducing myself previously, i have 2.5 horses
Gem - a 15hh connemara x tb grey mare
Bertha - a 15.1hh cobby thing grey mare
and Eddie - a 17.2hh Reg. Irish Draught bay gelding, whos currently out on trial. (hence the 0.5!)

He never did take criticim very well. When you start an internet forum inevitably some members will disagree with the way that you run it. Deal with it!
I always suspected that the PMs of known disenters were monitored by Big Brother.

Just like to point out, i am far from fluffy too, i did once try NH... for about a week, then i got bored and decided to get a life and get on with things with a whip and spurs! I feel lost without my whip, esp since i broke it on sunday riding! Oops... (best part is, i didnt smack her with it!)
*creeps in* I'm also ex-NR...I wouldn't say I was all fluffy.
I have a Highland cross something! I've only had him a month and a half, he's my first horse and I'm loving every minute of it (well almost every moment
Interesting that a suggestion has been made on a new board that was set-up because of the NR exodus of making donations to get extras. don't want to start a barney, but curious how people went form not paying a bean to NR, and seem to be happy paying someone else who clearly stated the board will be completely free. I know donations are optional, but surely you can't you won't pay for one at all, but will for another

This was suggested by a forum member/moderator and not the forum admin - the £ would be for changes/upgrades that would make the site more user friendly.
Summary of the opinions:
1 - people would like to have been consulted earlier, before the decision was made firmly, to see if any other options would have been viable
2 - it would have excluded the younger members who don't have credit cards - parents who are already paying for ponies/lessons would be unlikely to cough up for information that would be freely available elsewhere or social networking when Facebook etc are free
3 - People wanted to support the site but not be forced into it - many felt they were paying to help other people and that they had heard most of the opinions/advice before.
I would have be all in favour of donating to NR if it had needed the money TBH - it had been a great resource for me and I enjoyed reading everybody's posts. However, the decision was positioned as a way to stop trolling/bullying, and I for one thought 1 it was a bit of a weird reason and 2 it wouldn't work.

I suggested it I for one had no problem paying on NR, it was just the WAY it was handled and as the discussion went on I objected to admins dealing with the members.
I too am an ex-NR, although I've viewed this forum before from time to time. Don't think I'm particularly fluffy. I quite like to pick n' mix my approach to riding and horse-ownership. This includes a bit of NH when it seems appropriate, and also whip/spurs when appropriate (dressage for instance). I will miss NR - loved some of the tantrums - great entertainment! And I found it quite user-friendly. I still can't quite believe the whole board has been shut down in the way that it has. Talk about taking your bat and ball home.....!
''You should have gotten a long stick, stuck a cut out shape of a carrot on the end, sold it to the lady for £59.99 and told her to hit the horse with the friendly carrot stick when it napped (it is ok to hit the horse with a friendly stick - if the stick has a carrot stuck on it the horse will know it is a friendly stick and not a mean stick) and then horse will be cured.
Might not have been "asked to leave" then, hey PL?

This made me laugh out loud
So when my stubborn old man plants himself in the middle of the road and a tractor is coming down the middle, ill just tell him he is a good boy whilst we disappears under the wheels
