I really need your help/advice.

I have a springer puppy Molly, and she's very excitable - so much so, that every time she has a fuss, she piddles.
Is it normal, will she grow out of it, or is there any way it can be stopped?

Also, she poo-ed on the back seat of my car last night, and trampled it in, so do any of you know how to get it clean properly and get rid of the smell?
I have taken the seat out atm, as the smell is making me wretch....

Thanks in advance. :)

Hello!

Piddling with excitement is not uncommon, the best solution is to keep everything calm, relaxed, low tone of voice, gentle strokes instead of big fuss. Clicker training can work well too, as it removes a lot of the emotion but allows you to continue to work with your dog, which in turn mentally stimulates her, leaving her less energy to wind herself up with.

Pooping on the seat - oh dear, not sure how you'd get the smell out tbh, but maybe one of the special cleaners designed for those going through the process of house training will help? Also, make sure she has an empty stomach next time she travels, and is on a removeable seat cover (and also restrained of course since it is illegal to have an unrestrained dog in the main body of the car - you need a dog guard, crate or harness or you risk being pulled over and fined;))

Of course, no further advice can now be offered until we have pictures:D This is the rule here;):p

Sorry, I was unaware of the posting protocol. :D

Meet Molly :)

And this is her out and about, running rings around Charlie, our rescue rottie. :)

And yep, she was secured on the seat with her harness, but obviously not enough to stop her fidgeting around, and trampling it in... :D

We've had springers before, but time had dimmed my memories of how manic they are! :D

Thanks for the advice. :)

ETA sorry, had to do a link to the pics as FB doesn't want to co-operate today...

Dubs!!! Cracking puppy mate!

the piddling does settle down after a while but it can take a few months. Pups bladder muscles arent that great to start off with (hence all the hoo haa of house training) so they do tend to leak when excited!

As for the poo.....we have had the same trouble in the back of the car, funny how they manage to parade round in it and really grind it in, little devils!

Elbow grease and hot washing up liquidy water did the trick for mine but to be truthful.....on a very hot day......sometimes I do think maybe I may have stepped in something!

Or of course you could sell the car in winter and buy something with leather seats like wot I did!!

Oooh dear. Deary deary me. Yes indeed. I can see you are very much over-dogged there - but never fear! You can post her straight to me, I don't mind a bit, although it will of course be a HUGE sacrifice on my part to have such a HIDEOUS puppy in my house...:D

Thanks Spans. :D

I blame myself for the state of the back seat tbh. As I set off, I said to OH "I must root that waterproof back seat cover out of the garage in the morning...."
Talk about tempting fate.... :D

It's definitely an excitability issue with her. She uses her 'paper area' for normal wees but as soon as she sees you, she zooms around at 90mph, chucks herself at you, then dribbles wee all over your legs and feet... :D

You can have her as long as you swap my car for yours. ;) :D

Errrr I'm sorry to tell you that my doglet still pees himself with excitement at 16 months old! We hoped he'd grow out of it but he hasn't! He mainly does it when saying hello to people - when visitors come to the house we just ask them to completely ignore him. Or we have to be ready with the dettol and kitchen towel!!

RE: the poo smell, Pets At Home used to do a specific pet smell odour remover - we used to use it for cat smells but I'm sure it would work for dogs. It contains enzymes that 'eat' the smell so it's not full of chemical nasties. Might be worth a try.

What type of dog do you have Bex? Please don't say it's a springer.... :D

I have heard that the more manic type dogs can pee with excitement when they're puppies, but 16 months?! How do you cope??!

Yep, I thought maybe the pet shops might sell something with an odour remover, rather than using something which simply masks the smell. The mixture of perfume enhanced dog poo in your car is not nice on a hot day...:o

A trip to town is in order methinks. Thanks. :)

Mine is a terrierist. We really did thinly he'd grow out of it...! We can mostly avoid it happening by getting visitors to not even look at him. And he mostly gets excited at the yard thankfully! He just finds people mega exciting.

Ah we have a Border terrorist pup, but she's an ANGEL compared to Molly Dog! :D

Tbh, I was a bit scared to come in here hun  :D

But everyone has been really nice. I think I may stick around awhile... :D

No need to be scared - they're a lovely bunch in here. Don't drop in very often myself but like to keep tabs on what's going on!
