Greetings from Sweden!

Have been lurking on this forum for quite some time now and finally decided to make an account.

A little about me:

Have always loved horses since the first time I discovered them when my granddad made the big mistake of putting me on a horse when I was around 3. Sadly it was also around that time my family realised that I was extremely allergic to all things furry including equines. That resulted in some pretty tough years for my poor parents- having a horse crazed, severely allergic kid must have sucked. Fast forward 30 something years and the allergies are gone (yaaaay!) and I'm a horse owner since about two years back. Starting riding as an adult is pretty hard, mostly because the self preservation instinct is much more developed and you just don't bounce as well as a kid does when falling off (?) but it feels so damn good to finally be able to realise your childhood dream.

I started off with a old mare and school master but unfortunately she had to be pts because of an tendon injury. Afterwards I tried with different cold blooded breeds including cobs and also owned a tb (lovely horses, but not my cup of tea. Sooo many boken bones because of him...) and are now owner of the most wonderful little bay mare imported from Lithuania, of the pretty rare, old breed called Zemaituka (they rode in the crusaides on them!). She's only four, but seriously is the horse love of my life ?

That's a little about me. Glad to finally be a part of the community! Sorry for all the possible spelling errors, since english is not my native language.

Hello Elmo! Had to google Zemaituka as I’d never heard of the breed, there aren’t many photos so a pic of your lovely little bay mare would be much appreciated ?

Hi! Yes we'd love some pictures especially of a breed most of us have never heard of before.

PS your English is brilliant

Yes the breed is pretty rare, and I also wasn't aware of it's existence until I bought her and checked her passport. Spent some hours on Google and also Google translate (Lithuanian is not my forte ?) to try to learn something about the breed, since there's only a handful of them in Sweden.

They apperently come in different sizes. Alot are section B- to D ponies. Some, a bit different variaty, called Large Zemaituka (mine is one of those), are small horses usually around 150-160 cm, and built like a daintier, smaller type of draft I would say. The Large zemaitukas came to be when they started crossing in other breeds to broaden the gene pool and to make the horses bigger in size. Mine has arab, northern swedish draft, ardenne, and a couple of warmblood breeds like trakhener and hannoveranian if I remember correctly some generations back.

They are good allround horses including driving, and also have a good jump in them ☺️
