Am thinking of trying to put together a website for next season which would be based around two things, do people think there would be an interest for this sort of thing ...

1. Primarily to air video recorded from a helmet cam of xc rounds from intro-advanced rounds. This could include a written or video round up of the course, what was going right/wrong etc. And probably lots of embarassing vocal swearing and 'good boys' from me! Thought this might be interesting and edcuational and over a period of time be a useful point of reference for people to look at xc courses while deciding where to enter. Photos are fine but they sometime hide the terrain etc.

2. A bit of an add on but may run all my horses with a heart rate monitor next year. Again info could be made available and plotted with gps on maps. It could show each horses fitness and speed round each course. Benefits aren't as obvious and would be more technical but may interest the fitness/science geeks ou there?

Feedback and ideas wanted please!?

Think both really!

I already do the latter with my eventer so I know how far we have ridden, how fast he was and how his heart was performing-my garmin is a leftover from my EGB team days!

I also put it on google earth and you can map all your rides out! Ideal for grooms who can get lost!

Great idea - I always watch these when they do the larger courses but the smaller ones would be very interesting as well - and actually if you can run a commentary afterwards with your thoughts on the course i,e this fence comes up a lot quicker than I thought when walking, this rides better on the direct route then the alternative I had mapped out - that would be really interesting, plus some "intro" info or just a slide at the beginning to give details of yours and the horses experience to date as well as the breeding/stamp. The heart rate would also be interesting particularly if you have a pure TB to baseline it against.

have to say ive just watched the above video - wow ! what an amazing ride - very fit horse and very fit rider !!

i loved watching that so yes would watch others

Yeah I would watch something like this! If you had the video and did a voiceover afterwards kind of talking about what was happening would be really useful.

Do you already have a helmet cam?

I'm considering one mainly for riding on the roads (keep having near misses), but I'd be interested to do this when I'm competing as well (if this snow ever goes away).

Any suggestions / hints / tips would be appreciated.

We've been filming our rides for a couple of years now. We use a Helmet Hero, which just clips onto a fixing that we've stuck on our hats. It's about mid range price wise, and mid range quality wise too. I think you get what you pay for, and the quality of the resulting film generally increases with the £££ you spend on the camera.

The helmet hero does make you look like a teletubbie though ;)

(Kezza even got a bright pink protective cover for it - it's all about the matchy matchy....)
