Thinking of getting a helmet cam for my daughter who has recently started competing BE so she can use it to help with her training. Does anyone have any advice as to which makes to go for or to avoid? I don't want to spend a fortune! Many thanks

I got a very simple Veho Muvi helmet cam and the sports pack as it comes with an elastic strap. I still need to use black tape to secure it properly to my riding hat but once taped its very secure.

Its also tiny and an excellent price:

Looks like this on my hat (sits on the hat peak):

(Can you tell I was pleased we had finally got a run!)
And here is a video of the quality. Its not brilliant like some cameras but its extremely lightweight and you still get an idea of what you have done. I have to say I have now altered the angle as this was slightly too high.

Brilliant film, really enjoyed riding round the course with you!

I use the Go Pro ( Black Edition, whatever that means!)
It has a remote control that you can use when hacking, to record the interesting bits!
You can also switch on and off manually, using the button on top of the camera.
I have jumped with it, it gives a similar picture to the ladies above.

My husband will use it on a tripod above the video camera when filming show jumping in comps.
Should give panoramic shots, as the views can be set to 3 different widths.

Photos can be taken off the footage of quite good quality.
Can you tell I am not a teccy!

ArcticFox I LOVE your video!!

I have just ordered one! So thanks for that. Noticed on the reviews people have mentioned using a higher quality memory card than the one that comes...Did you do this or use the one that comes with it?

I bought a bigger memory card. it saves the footage in 30 min chunks. you could in theory keep it in your pocket then turn on and clip into place before you start xc but my horse is too sensitive for that so i have to put it on at the start. it recorded about an hour at Hendersyde and still had loads of memory. can't remember the card size but bought the biggest I could for the camera.

I love my helmet cam :) its so small and lightweight and has a light that changes colour so you can see when you have turned it on. Not a remote control though but for the price I was very happy with it!

Glad you liked my vid :) I love it as my mum doesn't come to events with me so she gets to watch it later!

this is the link to my blog with the link to the hedcam video in it and also a photo of us wearing it - sits on the side of my helmet and is very unobtrusive - dont notice I'm wearing it. It has flashing lights so you know it's recording although obviously cant see them from on top of the horse so it would be handy if it had a remote control but for £120 it's pretty good.

Sorry to jump in - how do you fix the camera to the hat? My daughter wants one for her birthday but I'm not sure on how safe they are for the rider in the event of a fall. I like the taped to the silk one - but how to the bullet types work? I've seen someone once with it under the hat harness against the ear / temple. Is that right?

I just use the rubber strap around my helmet over the silk - it fits snugly but would pull off easily if you accidentally hit a branch! Find it gives the classic "between the ears" view this way! Love my Hedcam HD wide, great quality video and audio!

I'm so jealous! I wish I'd had one before I stopped eventing :( loved AF's video too :D
Don't think having a hatcam dressage test would come close :p
