As title really. Currently have an uvex which I've had for a few years but had a young horse chuck me off on a hack today and hit it quite hard, so think it's probably time to replace.

I like to wear hard hats at shows, regardless of the level (though with my 3yo I suspect it'll be some time before a top hat is even an option) so want something that will look smart with a jacket.

Also I ride in the middle of South African summers every day which can be very hot, and I get dizzy, so want something well ventilated.

Any recommendations of what I could start looking at? I believe my dad is off to Germany in the next week or so, so i could probably get one brought back from there and use my spare velvet covered hat for now.

I love my UVEX so I'd happily buy another one of them. I also like the look and feel of the Samshields (they're slightly heavier than the Uvex but perhaps offer a bit more protection) and they're still nicely vented. Personally, I'd stay away from KEP as have heard too many bad things about them.

Personally I find the Charles Owen hats (Ayr8?) too heavy.

I know several people that like Antares helmets too (lightweight but slightly heavier than Uvex).

Will definitely look at Antares and Samshields :)

I like my uvex but not entirely convinced the shape of it suits my head to be honest, as much as I don't want to admit it

Which Uvex have you got? There is a huge difference in the shape of some of the styles I find. I tried a perfexion and found it just sat perched on the top of my head. However, the active succeed is a much deeper style and I settled on that.

I'm actually not sure! It's an older model, probably three years or so. Or even more like 4. It was the basic lower end model, but it does look like the perfexxion one. They didn't have the suceeds when I bought mine, but on second look they do seem a bit more traditional looking, and I think they might feel a bit more secure. My local tack shop in SA stocks them so might go and try them on! Thank you!

Can't believe how expensive they are! Guess I'll have to sit tight and cling on next time :)
