Sorry – not strictly competition, but thought you'd know best...

A horse I'm riding at the moment is difficult to bit - and we used to have the perfect bit for her but it has gone missing. I have trawled the internet to find what it might have been but to no avail. Just wondered if anyone might be able to help.

It was a snaffle bit, one joint (ie no link.) It was very curved and quite thin. The rings were rather small, more bradoon type. The metal was really yellow - like the Anky Neue Schule bits. It cost around £60 3-4 years ago and the lady who purchased it was pretty sure it was Neue Schule. However, NS don't do anything like it at the moment but apparently their production line has been cut a lot the last few years, so could be one of their old ones. Anyone know if there is anywhere I can find out about old NS bits?

If anyone has any idea, please let me know! Grasping at loose straws here, but thought it was worth a go.

I would also guess the demi-Anky from what you describe. Production of this was halted, but they have plans to have more out soon. If you do a Google search and phone around you can find the odd one in stock (this is what I did to get mine - Rusky loves it!).

Being nosey: what horse are you riding? Have you found something to show jump while Maggie has a break? (sorry if you have updated, I missed it).

Update - just spoke to Heather at NS. She reckons it is a very old KK Sprenger that is no longer in production. Sigh.

Booboos - this is a horse I'm riding for my yard owner - she is a fab 9-year old by Fabriano, amazingly talented. She needs to be sold (sadly can't afford her!) but my sister is competing her in dressage at the moment, and I am just beginning to jump her as well. She hasn't jumped at all before but is super scopey. First jumping competition with her on Sunday - a full 75cm course... Very sensitive mare and difficult to bit, hence desperately trying to find what this bit might have been!

ive just bought a loose ring snaffle the same as your describing? its one of the cyprium jp curved loose rings. not overly thick and my mare loves it. think it was about £20? maybe worth a try? x

Georgiegirl - yes, I had wondered about those bits, they do look good! Might give it a try - especially as they are inexpensive.

Frodo - that is not the one as it is thicker and also has stainless steel rings. I like the look of it though and have wondered about hiring it, but I have a feeling it might be too thick for this mare. Might give it a go.

What happened to the good old days where there were two available bits - loose ring single jointed snaffle for the flat and pelham for jumping! Though I guess horses might be more comfortable and happier now...

Anyway, mare seems reasonably ok with Maggies Myler 02 loose ring comfort snaffle for now despite the fact that it sticks out an inch on either side of her mouth as she has a small jaw and The Moo has the biggest gob on the planet. It is just very irritating that we can't ride them both at the same time as they are in the same bit...
