I am hoping that some of you great people will be able to give me some advice, This is our first winter having horses. We have a tb, welsh a and shetland.
We have two large paddocks one of which we are having work done (sorting the drainage), the second paddock is now almost bare a complete lack of grass in there.
Do you think that we would be ok to put a large round hayledge bale in there?? I am worried that they will over eat with it in??

Many Thanks. x x

your tb, welsh a and shetland are probably all needing different management? Id not worry about putting one out for the tb but your others would be best on netted hay

I agree that they may all need different management. How are their weights?

They do start to self regulate after the initial excitement, but if your Welsh A and Shettie are already a bit porky, you may need to section them off away from the bale and give them well netted hay instead.

A lot us will be in the same boat at this time of year, if that makes you feel better!!

I would be tempted to put hay as they are less likely to 'pig out' on that rather than haylage, and maybe introducing a higher calorie bucket feed for the TB.
