Hey alll

look i really need your opinion on this.
I am just back from mucking paddy out and as i was mucking out i was talking to one of the kids that work at the weekend.

well she told me last weekend that paddy was ridden back from the field by one of the girls that works there :mad: now he was not happy because he had to go by some cones in the street and got all upset. Now i was under the impression that he was brought back by trailer  no one is meant to be riding him except for me.

i have no idea what to do she said they were using a bridle on him. should i say something to the yard owner???
now i love the yard owner but she can be a bit scary and confrontational and i hate being in that situation so tell me what should i do

thank you for gettin this far :)

I don't care how scary or well liked the YO is that is your horse we are talking about. YOUR HORSE!!

What if something had happened? To either of them?

Its possible the YO doesn't know what happened? I can understand them using a bridle to bring him back from the field if its involving road work. He is big and young and as such could be a lot to handle if he was scared of something.

The thing I have issue with is someone else riding Paddy without your permission. If someone rode Bella without my permission I would be having words.

You can either talk to the girl concerned and find out if she was told she could ride him back or go straight to YO and talk to her to find out what happened. I would also be making it clear I didn't want it to happen again.

Good luck with getting it sorted

Exactly what Ellies_Mum2 said. YOUR horse, not theirs, YOURS. They have absolutely no right to ride him without permission.

thanx for that. I have spoken to someone who although does work there was not there on that day.
she said that maybe the guy who would have brought him back could bring the trailer down to the field and maybe it was safer to ride than drive

i did miss a phone call from my yard manager on sunday. BUT no one has said that he was ridden........ maybe the girl is wrong :confused: you know how kids are hey???

paddy is a friesian he is 16hh2ish and we have a black furry thing at the yard which is like a mini paddy :D maybe it was him???

look at me trying to get out of talking to my YM

right i shall grow a pair and speak to her tomorrow :o

Have a word with the YO and if it is true tell her it must not happen again. If you cannot trust her, I would suggest you think about moving yards. I know I would be fuming if someone had ridden my horses behind my back.

It's like someone has already said 'what if something happens' but I would find out the truth first and what actually happened, yes I too would be livid if some rode my horse behind my back.

Especially if it were bareback, on the roads, in the snow. How idiotic! YO?YM need informing of this ASAP - it is a death waiting to happen :(

i would be having words.
seperate note, have you had paddy long?? is he the one in you avatar? i knew a paddy that looked like that! pm me if you prefer to ;-)

That is such a HUGE NO NO!!! I would be furious and they would be very injured - not by me but if they tried to get on one of mine like that they would not be up there for long!!!! Yep you need to have a 'nice' word about it and maybe go down the route of them being injured to start with rather than jumping in with both feet - which is what I would probably do!! Good luck :):):)

i totally agree with you and thats why i did this post as i yell first think later lol :D

I would just ask the owner if someone had ridden him back, she might not even know but i would be saying i would like her to find out.
He is your horse and it is up to you who sits on him.
I had the same things some years ago, my yo was doing a bit of work with mine when i was away and i found out that she had asked a girl who had just started at the yard to warm her down, I was livid and asked if it was true. This is a really scary yo, loved her to bits but not someone you would antagonise. She was actually quite apologetic about it. At the end of the day you are paying her, she is not doing you a favour.

I would approach the YO with the attitude that the young girl had told you this and that you are sure that the YO doesn't know about it if it is true. That you realise that the girl might have been mistaken but that you would appreciate it if YO could investigate. This gives YO a 'get out' even if she does know about it.
I would then stress to her that you really don't want him to be ridden and that you aren't sure how your insurance would cover someone riding without your permission.
This allows everyone to keep their temper, save face and ensure that it doesn't happen in the future.

I too was going to say go down the insurance route. Say that this is what you have heard and you are concerned because your insurance doesn't cover other people riding him. If YO then puts her foot in it and says she is covered then you know it's going on and you can take it further, if she agrees and looks horrified you've also solved your situation.
