I have some suprise puppies...(see post in NL) and initially thought Mum and babies were doing well, however now I'm not so sure, I need some help/advice please...

She's not settling well and is quite unsure of them. She keeps picking them up too, not taking them anywhere (now she's where she wanted them to be) but picks them up constantly. She picks them up when they're trying to suckle and puts them between her front legs to wash them constantly, do I leave them and her to get on with things or intervene?

Instinct's obviously there, as she cleaned up after herself, lifts her legs to allow them better manouvreability (dodgy spelling I know!) to teats etc, it's just the labs whelping I've had anything to do with just get on with it

It sounds to me as if she is very over anxious. Firstly, has she been checked over by a vet to make sure no afterbirth has been retained? If she is feeding them okay and they seem content, i.e. fat tummies and not crying, I would leave her alone and see if she settles. Is there any way you can observe her without actually being in the room with her? It could be that she is just worrying when you are about, make sure she doesn't lick the umbilical area on the pups too much as that can become very sore . If you are concerned it would probably be worth giving your vet a quick call and discussing with them, but hopefully she will soon relax and settle with them.
