We have just been informed that our employer doesn't like dogs and has issued an ultimatum - either the dog goes, or we do.

As we live-in we would lose our home and our employment.

Our employer is several rungs up the ladder, so we rarely meet him, our immediate managers are very upset about this ultimatum.

Is there anyone who can help, knows anyone who can help, or who has any suggestions?

We are devastated :(

Do you have friends or family who could take your dog temporarily? Then get job hunting post haste! That's what I would do - my folks would take Hen, and I'd be out of there ASAP. :(

Have just spoken to one son who will take for a week or so, but can't have her for longer due to work commitments.

Everyone else is either allergic, has dogs who wouldn't live with another, or have newborn babies, so can't help.

I would take your son up on the offer and look for a good kennels that can take her once that time is up. Then get job hunting. We work to live, not the other way around.

I hope you get sorted out ok, horrible situation to be in.

Awful situation to find yourself in, MrsElle. Did you have the dog when you got the job or were you specifically told dogs weren't allowed? It seems harsh to have someone lose their home and job for this reason. It may be worth having a chat with a solicitor who specialises in employment issues. (Most will do a free half hour consultation to see if they can hep you.) Good luck - must be so worrying for you. :(

I think I would look into this.

A lot depends on how long you have been employed and what your contract says about your living accommodation ie no pets. Do you have an email saying you could have dogs? PM with more details if you like and I can start digging through the info available at work.

Either way start job hunting - employers that change terms and conditions at the drop of a hat are a PITA!

Yes it is a new job and we did have three dogs, my brother took the little two when we moved (one was previously his anyway) as we couldn't bring them all.

In an ideal world our dogs would have a home for life. Unfortunately we had to move from our last job due to threats both physical and verbal, which lead to us living in emergency accommodation for a while. It seems it has been out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Sorry to hear this. I thought your new employers had agreed to you having your dog live with you. I guess a trip to the CAB might be helpful to see where you stand legally.

So have you kept the latest dog , the rottie? Presumably you have it in writing that you were okay to have the dog, I would definitely try CAB for advice. Sorry you seem to be having such bad luck at the moment, didn't you have to rehome some other dogs a while back due to a move.

Oh b****r Mrs E if you've worked there for less than a year you have no rights - except for racial or sexual discrimination - and realistically they can get rid of you for no reason at all.

Has Elsie upset somebody? As I remember you saying that she was interviewed along with you for the job. If she has is there anyway you could throw yourself on your employers mercy and promise that it'll never happen again even if it was something really stupid?

If that doesn't work, could one of you look for a job that ISN'T live in just so you could get your own place to provide a home for the dog? In the meantime, one stays where you are to pay the bills until they can also get work near to 'home'?

If that isn't an option, I'd take up your sons offer and/or kennels and save plus job hunt like mad until one or both of you gets a job that allows you your own place - IME live in accommodation always causes hassles like this.

Where are you? I'd happily have Elsie come to stay for a while as long as she could resist eating eeeeeevvvvvilllll terror :D
