My horse had a hobday and tieback in Dec 2010 as he made a noise.

Prior to this he had always had a little cough, maybe 3 or 4 times when he picked up trot, but that was it. And this resumed after his operation as normal.

Last March he had a virus (along with another two of mine) and his cough increased, but returned to 'his normal' 3 or 4 in early work.

Over the winter he has had time off (just hacking) and is approx 8 weeks back in work but his coughing is worse than ever.

The pattern is coughing intermittently in walk and early trot work then when in periods of extended trot and canter, nothing.

He's fine in a lesson when I am by myself as he has his early coughs and is then up in work and fine. Clinics are carnage as he is up and down in his work throughout the time.

He has just done a 10 day course of Keradox just in case he had another virus, but there has been no change. Today he was scoped and his operation scar and airways are all fine. No swelling, redness or undue mucus. His tract wash was also fine, very clear.

He is now on 120 quarterzone tablets a day to see if this gets rid of any inflammation we can't see.

I just want my amazing horse back.

For interest he is out 24/7 this time of year. In at night in winter on Bliss bedding with soaked hay. Gets fed from the floor and doesn't cough when eating. I have tried respirator supplements and a shot of air power booster prior to work with no results.

Has anyone had anything like this before? Any trial and error remedies?

Thanks in advance.
