Long story short, need some advice on my mares feed & looking at the possibility of adding a supplement.

Currently she is fed 1.5 scoups of mix & 1/2 scoup of beetpulp in both morning & evening. She is an EXTREMELY good doer, turned out minimum of 8hrs a day...

Her workload will be increasing from next week & will be doing lots of hill work etc to help build topline but looking to add something to her diet that will help her overall condition - Must be NON heat inducing...

As her workload will increase by how much should I be increasing her feed by?

( really need to read up more on horse nutrition so apologies for sounding like a total novice! )

Pics below from yesterday so you have an idea of her build - she is 5.

If she is a very good doer and presumably has plenty of energy from the fact you say she needs non heating, then I can't quite see why she even needs the mix and beet she gets already, let alone increase it. A broad spectrum vit/min supplement or balancer is probably all she needs unless you need extra weight or energy.

She gets two feeds which she needs due to being in consistent work and she is kept on full livery. Her energy levels right now are where I want them however I have found her a bit sluggish in the heat but it seems to be affecting alot of horses.

At 5 she is probably sluggish due to lack of fitness/being overweight rather than lack of food, so wouldn't increase feed until needing more weight. If she still lacks energy when fitter then look at keeping her off grass bfor a few hours before riding or a vet/back/teeth check.

Really you don't need to feed her. My little cob is ridden 5 x a week doing a fast 6-8 miles a time. He is out 24/7 muzzled and has no extra feed. I don't see what being on full livery has to do with her feed.

This is mine mid April and I was pumping food in.

This is her this week and I have cut her food right down over the last month.

However they were doing on grass a month or so ago is a completely different kettle of fish to what they are getting now from the grass.

And with the warmer temperatures, they are using nothing like the same energy to keep warm.
