Help/Advice really needed....

Hi,

I have a huge problem :(. Basically I am overseas for another month and my Mother is doing my horses Sat to Monday and then a good friend from Tues-Fri. Anyway my TB smashed my Mother in the face on Sat nearly knocked her out and she now is sporting a black eye. Same horse kicked Friend a few weeks ago when she walked behind him once he'd been fed. Big no no with that horse - she's aware of his quirk. Has dealt with him for 10 years or so. Then this week the 2 yr old has taken to rearing and has swung arond and booted Friend in the head. The horses are out during the day and in at night. My horses are SO good when I do them. I am very strict but they are very well mannered and respectful. I am thinking of flying home..... Or any ideas on how I can help from afar?
 
Oh dear! Would it help to leave the horses out until you can get back? Rugged and well fed they should be fine and it would cut the workload down for your mum and friend when they are both feeling sore.
 
I was thinking that leaving them out full time but one of them (the one that gave Mum a black eye and booted friend) is the one that was very ill before I came away and just doesn't do well outside, so he really needs to come in at night. I do think from a safety point of view he's cut his nose off to spite his face (that saying doesn't go too well on a horse!) and might well end up turfed out. God I am angry with their behaviour. Bad beasties. If they were "naughty" I'd never have left them in the first place.

Ditto this,it seems a shame to cut short your trip. I'd leave them out, feed more hay if necessary and get mum/friend to do as much as possible over the fence. Could your mum and friend perhaps go up together if one needs to come in or have anything done? It might not be your ideal but they'll be fine until you get back and at least your mum/friend will be safe.

Another thought, mum/friend aren't upping their feeds at all are they? Might account for some over exuberance? It has been colder and wetter here.

ETA Just read your reply, did wonder if it was the poorly one, maybe he is feeling a little over pampered since being so ill, it probably won't hurt him to rough it for a bit, might help him remember his manners! You must be feeling terrible, I know I would be, but you weren't to know they'd turn into hooligans.

I just feel so terrible about it. It's actually upset me as they are really showing me up and just being horrors. They are such well behaved horses usually. I suppose it's good that Hear Comes Trouble is back to his normal self but Jesus he's just given me a 2K vets bill and now he's abusing my mother. No chance of her chipping in now! Anyway on a serious note - their feeds won't have been changed as one of them is prone to colic and I was pretty strict about their diets before I left. I think it could be some outside living for them - I will suggest hay in nets on the fence - they can be done on the outside and feed over the fence too. Just rug changes are quite hard if they are outside. I suppose if it's colder now - heavy rugs on and they can just get on with it. At the point of turning both grey and bald.......
